Hi I put an offer in on a car that was not excepted. After car failed to sell the seller contacted me and asked to relist or sell the car to me prefered not to relist to save on fees.I paid a deposit for the car put later found out driving left hand vehicles is a real drag as you can not see around the car in front so asked the seller to refund the deposit as I was stressing about driving a car because it is left hand drive. He states that is minimal cost to change the car to right hand drive and that I should go ahead and buy it but I don't want to have to work and spend heaps to appreciate my car as all my research shows that a right hand drive conversion could balloon to thousands of dollars. He continually refuses to refund my deposit even though the car was never descibed as a left hand drive vehicle.

as the transaction has absolutely nothing to do with an eBay transaction, not a lot of point bringing it to the eBay Help Boards.
this is something you need to sort out with the seller, who obviously is not interested in returning your deposit as he expected you to go thru with the transation, and as you paid him money, there has been a '['contract to buy'' established

You are right about the cost of conversion to right hand drive, it does cost a small fortune and has to be signed off by a registered engineer which is another arm & leg.
Having said that I have a left hand drive Mustang and it is not really a problem once you get used to it.

I am stunned any car ad didn't state such a basic thing as the fact it was a left hand drive car. That would be a pivotal fact, I would have thought.
Such a pity you didn't buy via ebay as it could definitely have been presented as a misleading ad.
I got the feeling though that you knew about the left hand drive before you actually got to the point of paying the deposit?
You are right to be wary of conversion fees, by the sounds of it, so it means you may just have to forfeit your deposit, unless there are legal avenues, but they may be expensive too.

Which would not have been a great deal of help, especially if the fact it was left hand drive was not mentioned in the off ebay deal. There is no ebay buyer protection for motors, there is no Paypal protection either.
If the deposit stated it was non refundable then you will have even less chance of gettng anything back and should not have handed over any more money than you were prepared to lose if you did not inspect and research before buying.
Unless the seller is a motor trader and falsly advertised you are probably up the creek without the proverbial.paddle.

Judging by the first post, buyer knew it was left-hand drive, paid their deposit, then changed their mind later. I wouldn't be refunding the deposit either if I was the seller, the whole point of a deposit is a non-refundable amount changing hands to confirm that they will buy the item. Change your mind, lose your deposit.
