I have made a bid on 2 tickets to a musical show. The auction started at $150, I put the item in my watching, noting that 1 bid had been placed. I decided to put in a bid at $152.50 which put me as the highest bidder. I did not realise that the seller had made a Description revision, which stated he/she was closing the auction a day earlier advising the new date and time the auction was closing. I consequently won the auction.
I messaged the seller advising the duration of the listing cannot be changed once it's been on ebay for more than 2 hours, and refused to pay as the listing did not meet ebay requirements. The sellers actions made me very uncomfortable, and made me think perhaps the other bid may not have been genuine. I have asked the seller to cancel the transaction which has not occured. The Show was actually cancelled,so the seller would be entitled to a full refund, therefore the seller has incured no loss. I've looked at trying to report this item to ebay but this senario does not seem to be included in categories. What should I do now,as i've received my first ebay request to make payment. Would appreciate Help !! Thanks.

I cant find it written in selling policies that a listing cant be changed after 2hrs as you stated.
I CAN find that the seller can alter his listing until the last 12hrs If there are no bidders. IF there are bidders, the seller must either cancel the bids, OR sell to the High Bidder (YOU)
That is what your seller has done. (i gather from what you have described)
The next problem is....
-the show was cancelled. If you pay for these tickets, YOU may not be able to get a refund of the sale from the vendor, as you are not the original purchaser of the tickets.
This fact may get you out of the sale. Ring EBAY. Tell them you bought tickets for a show that has since been cancelled, and as you are not the original purchaser, wont be entitled to a refund through the vendor, so you wish to cancel the sale with the seller, but the seller is not responding to your emails.
Cant hurt to try.
Other than that.... wait for digital ghost to respond. ๐
Good luck ๐

If the seller is silly enough to open a non payer dispute, simply reply to it as you have here ie show has been cancelled & therefore tickets would be useless to you.Simple ๐

Sounds like they ended to sell to the highest bidder which they are allowed to do at any time. Sellers cannot extend the listing time after it has been live for so long but I am not sure that includes lessening the time and isn't the case here if it was a sell to highest bidder closure.
I agree that it would be daft to pay for worthless tickets and I would advise the seller that you will not be paying but are happy to agree to a mutual cancellation so they can get a refund on their FVFs.
If they don't do that the ony action they could take would be to open an unpaid item strike and I am certain if they went down that road ebay would remove it on appeal given the circumstances.

As far as I understand listing duration can be shortened only when there are no bids, unless it's to sell to the highest bidder as PJ has said.

Hello, and thanks for the replies. I have emailed the seller and again asked them to instigate a mutual cancellation of this transaction. Will wait and see !!!
