Purchased an item 5 days ago and made immediate payment. The seller has not claimed the money(paypal) or replied to my emails. Am wondering what step to take now.

I do not understand what is meant by "the seller has not claimed the money". Did you go through checkout to make the Paypal payment? The money would then be in the seller's account without any notification to you.
If sufficient time has elapsed for the seller to post the item to you and you have had no reply to queries you could lodge an Item Not Received request.
You could also lodge a Paypal dispute to obtain a refund.
However there could be a number of reasons why the seller is out of contact for a week and it may be worth obtaining the telephone contact details from ebay to follow up directly.

I paid through paypal but they tell me it has not been claimed by the seller as they are not registered? Paypal was their option for payment however.

Could be a typo with the email address in their listing. Drop them a message is the easiest way to resolve it, but if they're not replying about all you can is cancel the payment..

Also if they are new, they may not have upgraded their PayPal account from Personal to Premier. You need to have a Premier or Business account to receive payments.
Or as Dave said if the smallest of errors are in the PayPal email addy, payment won't be received.
They can check the listing by clicking re-list, edit listing and scroll to payment details. Check PayPal email addy and DONT click submit listing but click cancel.

Contact the seller and send them a copy of the address the payment was made too and ask them if there is any typos in the details.
If there is they need to call paypal who can assist them in claiming your payment.
If the details are correct they may not yet have attached that address to a PP account in which case they need to register those details to paypal to claim their payment.
If they have an account and received other payments they may need to upgrade their account to a premiere account to claim the payment.
If they have not done this they can only claim up to 5 payments with upgrading.
If you try all of the above and still they do not claim it then you can go to your PP account and cancel the payment.

I cannot see anything that you bought 5 days ago. What was it? Was it expensive? Seller not actually having PP account may also mean it was a scam; harvesting people's info and hoping for some bonus now and then when people pay by DD.

Waited 10 days and still no reply from repeated attempts. Because my paypal payment went unclaimed from Seller I have just cancelled the payment... See what happens from here.. I have a funny feeling it will be put up for sale again as I did get it at a good price.

oh my.. I now have reason to believe the seller passed away the day before the auction ended. I put negative feedback today.. I would like to remove it just in case...how do I do that?
