With the OP, I see heaps of listing with "Advertised elsewhere and can end auction at anytime" and then the auction seems to get canceled 24hrs before the end, with bids on.I don't know if this is against rules but I would be very busy complaining if it is.

Yes, it is against the rules. I wasn't sure for a long time because I could never find the rule written in any of eBay's policies, but a link was provided recently and it's there in black and white. I'd say it only applies to single, one-off items/listings, as eBay do provide tools to help manage stock numbers if you have your own website etc
