Hi has anyone had this happen lately - I go to pay for an item via paypal and the sellers email via ebay is not linked with their paypal account so the payment does not go through (says they are not registered).
I have had this happen twice in the last week!!!
Both times the sellers say to just go ahead and pay via another email address in paypal or that they will send me an invoice via paypal instead of fixing up their email address to properly link through their ebay and paypal account....
Is there any problem with this???? Will there be any recourse if I don't receive my item....
Never had this happen before!!!

If you pay an invoice generated directly from PayPal, be sure that it includes a proper description of the goods, preferably including the eBay item number. Your protection is exactly the same as on eBay, but only if the invoice is for eligible goods that are posted (i.e. no protection for services, intangible items like digital downloads and pick-up items).
If you send money rather than pay an invoice, you will still have the same protection, but again make sure you include all the relevant information (item number, description of goods etc).

Just thought I'd post the link to the Buyer Protection Policy segment of PayPal's user agreement. https://cms.paypal.com/au/cgi-bin/?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=ua/UserAgreement_full&locale.x=en_AU#Schedule%202.%20PayPal%20Buyer%20Protection%20Policy
The (relevant to this circumstance) eligibility requirements for protection are:
4.1. You may be eligible for the PayPal Buyer Protection Policy if the following eligibility requirements are met:
you use PayPal as your payment method when you make the payment; and your payment is less than $20,000.00; and your payment is not a personal transaction payment and is made through:
i. an eBay “Pay Now” button or an eBay invoice; or
ii. the “Send Money” button of your Account by selecting “eBay Item” and entering your eBay User ID and the eBay item number for purchases on eBay; or
iii. the “Send Money” tab on our Website, by clicking the “Purchase” tab, or by selecting the “Checkout with PayPal” button or otherwise selecting PayPal as part of a Seller’s PayPal checkout flow;

Further to what ghost said... I am not 100% confident that you are covered if you pay against a Paypal invoice / payment request.
It's not specifically mentioned - it says "the “Send Money” tab on our Website, by clicking the “Purchase” tab" - and that is VERY specific.
Also - the seller CANNOT change the email address in the eBay listing. It is "locked in" - so unless they can convince Paypal to do some modification to the transaction records, they really have no alternative but to ask you to pay to a different address.
To get 100% sure Buyer Protection, I suggest that you follow that clase in the User Agreement to the letter. Which means that YOU initiate the payment like they specifcally mention.

I noticed the same the same thing, and though I can't guarantee it, I'm pretty sure it comes under or otherwise selecting PayPal as part of a Seller’s PayPal checkout flow. (It's an assumption, but one based on the fact that the wording for other - OS - PP user agreements is virtually identical and I know for sure buyer protection covers directly generated invoices).
I paid a direct invoice recently and have the option to open a dispute when I view the details, which I don't for other payments I've made which don't qualify for protection, however none of that is verfiable proof of anything so it's a good idea to err on the side of caution.
