I recently bought a tureen from USA and the tracking info summary reads as follows:

Tracking numberLK094177857US- opens in a new window or tabINTO CUSTOMS, Jan-07-13, 22:30 PM, CHICAGO (O'HARE) AMCMa...

What does it mean??  Can anyone please explain??  If it is in customs, should I be seeking assitance from the seller?  Thanks...

It simply shows it has gone through customs and the carrier has it and it is enroute, meaning it is in transit, has probably flown from US to here and will show up as landed as soon as it is tracked into the system here.

Seems a little long not to be showing as landed here, but there may be some delays.

Just keep in mind that you have 45 days from purchase to open a PayPal claim and if your tracking doesn't change within the next 5-6 days, contact the seller and see if they can track it.

Depending on the shipping, a lot of packages sent from the US can't be tracked once they leave the country of origin. Once it arrives in Australia it often can't be tracked via the Postal system used to send it.. You can try and track it on the Australia Post website

  Tracking number   LK094177857US

Copy this number and paste it into here:  https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction_input

that is the carrier website.  New info should appear soon, if not you could go to your PO with this tracking number and see if they can can give you more info.  They can see more than we do.  If it is not delivered within about 43 days open PP case.  Do not allow it to drag out any longer than that as you only have 45 days and then there is no way to claim through PP.  After yo open case, there is still 20 days to escalate, but do not leave that long, weeks 10 days max.

The parcel was sent by First Class International which means that the tracking will probably not show anything after it leaves the USA, until it is delivered here in Australia.

It is way too early to be stressing about First Class mail...you need to allow at least 3 weeks before worrying.

Chicago O'Hare AMC is the black hole of Calcutta when it comes to international parcels-thought that was an unfortunate well known fact ie it WILL show up in Sydney customs eventually.

I would not count on that Foxy.  I have had 2 parcels completely disappear when they went through Chicago mail centre.  A third was posted in early November and turned up in late February.

I called the aus post today who advise that first class from US which usually has a tracking number which starts with the letter 'L' offers the lowest service and is the most economical method of posting...interestingly, those packages cannot be tracked here in Aus...they also advised that if I do not get it by next week Friday, to contact the seller...I will be insisting on priority from now on...those tracking numbers start with the letter 'C' and arrive within 6-10 days of posting and can be tracking in Australia.  Good luck Superscanner - be mindful of the 45 days everyone has mentioned and i hope you get your package!  Express post from US starts with the letter 'R' and offers best insurance coverage to protect the buyer and the seller.  Ahhhhh...
