what is the ruling on purchasing an item and then posting it. when should the item be posted?

i recently purchased a gopro, but instead of posting it when the item has been paid for, and acknowledged, i am told they will not be posting it for another 16 days from the day the payment has been accepted. whats the go there, my thoughts are that it should be posted immediately the payment is accepted.. as follows...

the seller says...

The GoPro will be delivered within 16 business days from date of payment. Business days do not including weekends.
Near the end of the 16 business day period, the parcel will be sent from the warehouse in Sydney by Startrack courier and a tracking number provided.
This deal is set at "16 business days" delivery for a cheap price $249. Delivery times cannot change.

They tie in the delivery time with the "cheap price".

they are probably drop-shipping, getting it in from elsewhere, that's why the wait. Then when it arrives in Sydney, they post it to you. Just a guess, as otherwise, why wait? If it is just sitting in a Sydney warehouse.

the seller can set the shipping time terms though, that is true.

What was written in their terms and conditions on the listing?

Did they mention handling times etc?

All sellers get to choose a processing time, it dioesn't have to be instant.

Your seller has in his listing a handling time of more thaN 10 DAYS, SO YOU AGREED TO ITm (OOps sorry).

It's in the postage section.

So not too much you can do for a while, but do keep an eye on your time frames, if you havent't received it within 45 days, it's tijme to head to PayPal

Oops.

hope it goes OK for you.

in the future, don't change a Paypal payment to a bank deposit, you have no buyer protection that way.

a seller has to offer, and accept, one safe payment method. It is worth sorting it out if a problem arises.

sellers can have issues with accepting Paypal payments, if it is a genuine problem, it is usually easily fixed by doublechecking their email address or upgrading their account to accept payments. I don't know what they said to have you change, but just so you know for next time.

thanx for the sound advice. will do that next time! he said he had issues with his email and seeing 27 sold items with a 99.9% good rate i relinquished my scepticism just this once. i am usually so skittish with ALL online transactions.

Re: what is the ruling on purchasing an item and then posting it. when should the item be posted?

Given you have potentially gifted them $249 I would hold out for a week or so yet.

Are they a registered business?

If so, Fair Trading in your State may be able to help if the item is not forthcoming. Or the Police online fraud site.

A good rule of thumb is to never pay for anything by bank deposit unless you are happy to lose the money. Usually somebody you have dealt with on previous occasions should be safe, but PROBLEMS WITH THE SELLER'S PAYPAL ACCOUNT is a massive red flag.

I suspect you won't get the item or your money back. I hope I'm wrong.
