So does The Good Guys, but only on items that they sell. They are not a repository for items from other sellers. And it is definitely not foolproof.
I used the service before Christmas when there was a 20% discount offer from ebay. The 2 items I bought were suopposedly available at a store that we went past every week to do our shopping so a much better bet than paying $9.95 delivery on each item.
After 2 weeks there was still no notification that the items were available for delivery so we went into the store. One item was sitting there waiting for us but the other was out of stock. We were given the option of taking another brand which was only about one third of the cost of what I had ordered or wait for the other item to come back into stock.
I chose to wait but 3 weeks later there was still no sign of it and the store I had chosen to pick up from finally admitted that they were no longer stocking the item, and it was no longer available from most NSW store. They did not understand why I would not just take a refund and reorder on line but I would have lost my extra 20% ebay discount.
I insisted they get it in from another store/state and then the fight started over the postage I had to pay. I refused to pay any more than the $9.95 delivery that was available on ebay. It ended up costing the Good Guys $20 to have it sent to me from Queensland but I paid the $9.95.
I would never use that service again...it would have been a lot less stressful to have paid the delivery charge in the first place and I would have had both items within a week, not nearly 7 weeks by the time the saga was over.

Possibly no worse than Australia Post. We'll just have to wait and see I think

Actually it seems to be a bit worse, at least as far as shipping timeframe goes.
I purchased an item from an online-only Sydney bisiness which was posted last Monday, expected delivery at my nominated Woolworths store Thurs 21. Registered post item - so there was tracking - showed it left Alexanadria, travelled to Granville then St Leonards (very close to the destination suburb)
Then it was 'redirected' and ended up back in Alexandria on the Thursday. Next point of shipping was Fri, marked as 'Delivered' - still in Alexandria - and signed for, obviously not by me Lol
After ringing Aust Post to find out what the situation was, I was told that the nominated Woolworths was the 'receiver' and they had to call Aust Post to find out what was going on. Rang them and spoke to a rep there who agreed with me that that didn't sound right, as my name was on the package...but she gave AP a call.
Turns out I was given the wrong info, it was my responsibility to call, so I did so again (armed with a ref no# lol)
Upshot of the whole situation was that the package travelled back to a Woolworths nominated redirection centre (where it was signed for, so is now out of Aust Post's hands). It will be transferred to the store I nominated via Woolworths internal mail system by Thurs next week...which will be 10 days after postage. Seems a horribly covoluted process to travel about 12 km really Lol
Needless to say it was a real mistake on my part not going for the usual private address shipping option - I would have had it on Thurs 21...lesson learned, I guess!

I think that a lot of people are at work during the day and don't have a safe place to have it left. As they are at work they might not be able to get to the post office so it makes sense that they would prefer to be able to pick it up from somewhere on the weekend or somewhere that is open after they finish work.

I was wondering how long it would be before the cracks started to appear in the new system. I am surprised it has taken this long.
I would be interested to know how popular it is.

Well, my package was a birthday present...which was a bit awkward, since its been missed now ๐
My mistake for thinking that Aust Post would deliver direct to the Woolwoths store...which is, you'll admit, what you would logically assume. But apparently not lol

Also lyndal, the first AP rep I spoke to who gave me the wrong info had never heard of the scheme, and kept saying "But you cant be a private individual and have a parcel addressed to a Woolworths store!"
And in the end, turns out that no, you can't lol

Lyndal - I have sent quite a few parcels using the click and collect service. I had one hiccup right at the beginning which was sorted out very quickly but no problems since then.
For the service to work efficiently the seller has to put the special code on the parcel which is provided by ebay when the buyer goes through checkout and chooses the click and collect from Woolies Postage option. They also have to upload the tracking details to ebay. I think that most problems will occur if sellers don't follow the correct guidelines for using the service.
