Why does ebay's postage take so long . A package from Melbourne to the Gold Coast anything from 7-10 working days . Why isn't express post made a compulsory option.

Two reasons,
1. Some dodgy sellers advertise items they don't have in stock or they use a fake location
2. Australia Post is useless and keeping items in their warehouse for a week or more before they move it on. I'm looking at an item I bought over a month ago that is still to be received that was sent 2 weeks late because the seller did not have the actual item, then Aus Post held onto the parcel at their Parkes warehouse for 7 days and now it has been sitting at their Welshpool warehouse for 10 days.
And while Australia Post charges extra for their supposedly "express postage" sometimes it actually takes longer then standard postage. The main problem is the monopoly that Australia Post has in Australia. If you want something fast have the seller send it by couriers like TNT or others ( just not Couriers Please which is a Singaporean version of Australia Post)

Lodging a complaint is just a waste of time , they are getting hundreds if not thousands of them daily and could not care less. Most of the replies are now automated and come with the standard excuses, Covid, weather and unforseen circumstances. I lodged a complain 2 days ago and was told the delay, 3 weeks over the ETA was caused by flooding. Funny thing is there were no flooding 3 weeks ago and besides that the item has been sitting in some warehouse in WA for the past 10 days without moving and we had no rain in WA since last year.
If you want to lodge a complaint do it with ACCC and the Ombudsman https://www.ombudsman.gov.au/How-we-can-help/postal-industry-ombudsman
