The other thing i noticed about the people who left feedback was that they were private listing - bidders' identities protected this is what bought up the red flag for me

You shouldn't be mentioning sellers user ID's in the forums. Ebay in all their wisdom have decided to block everyones ID's so they all look private now anyway, so that alone should not be a red flag.
If you have paid by paypal and you don't receive your item within a month or so for overseas purchase or a few weeks if seller is located in australia then simply open up a item not received dispute from your my ebay. If you click on your purchases find your item and on the right hand side of page click on the drop down menu it will say resolve a problem, click on that and go from there. You have 45 days to open up a dispute with paypal.

I can't find any purchases from this seller under your ID so cannot check feedback, also if you do not pay you could find yourself wearing a non payment strike. You could ask the seller to cancel the transaction but they certainly don't have to agree to it.

Feedback of two and they sold over 70 gold rings for cheap prices which should have had the warning bells ringing to
start with,
Their ID will either disappear or their feedback will become private so their negs don't show.
Must be heading towards Christmas, hence the scammers are becoming more active,(this is a hit and run scammer).

Maybe check your Paypal account and see whether the payment has been claimed.
If it hasn't been claimed just cancel it.
These type of scammers are generally after contact details so they can send you phishing Emails in an attempt to
hijack you eBay or Paypal accounts and add your details to spammer lists
Be careful with any Emails you may receive and don't click on any links in them,(which should never be done for eBay
and Paypal Emails).
If you've get any communication from them the same thing applies,(don't click on any links).
If you have clicked on any links,as a precaution , run all your spyware, keylogging and virus protection and change your passwords,(something which should be done on a regular basis anyway)
