Can anyone help me date and identify this silver knife please. It has 2 areas of hallmark on the back of the blade and on the trim of the neck. All help and advice appreciated.
Many thanks

Knife WAS silver plated but is now just brass. All silver has been polished off. Marking EPNS stands for Electro Plated Nickel Silver. Probably dates to around 1910 - ish but don't quote me I can't see the handle

Just google EPNS for explanation. Other marks relate to British manufacturer

Hi Thank you for your response, I appreciate it. The handle looks almost like bone or bakerlite maybe in a cream would that fit with the period you have dated?

Sounds about 1920-30. You can have EPNS re-plated and it looks like new. Costs a bit though. Try to only use worn pieces for ornaments/decoration/show because they tend to give you food poisoning in the form of a tummy upset

on the silver mount under the hilt there are hallmarks (for the mount, it's silver). these knives never have any plating left as it rubs off the blade if its used. unused in a box would be a different story.
