This was in my late aunt's china cabinet. She had some lovely things and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this little vase.

Hello,
Have you researched Ceramics marks.
As some are well known.
I think I have seen the blue anchor(although it is hard to see ).
If you google Makers marks. I am sure you will come up with something.
Similar to Hallmarks.
Good luck.
Cherie 4429
PS I adore the painting of the Water Carrier.

Cherie - do you mean the painting in my photobucket? Are you able to see it???
I have been trying to find out the name of that painting. It is a water colour done by my father, but he used to copy paintings and I have always wanted to know what the original painting is called.
Off to google the Water Carrier

I would be guessing a spill vase 1880-1910. I would be guessing German / Bavarian. I'm sorry but your photo of the backstamp is not clear enough for possible identification - I think I can see a star? but what's below - an anchor? a crown?
It looks a bit like the mark for Ernst Bohne & Sohne but I thought they only made porcelain, while yours looks like bisque? Bit hard to tell from the photos. Have a look on eBay - lots of Ernst Bohne there. But there were many similar marks.

It is an original watercolour done by my father - some time between 1920 and 1940 I think - I think it is copied from a painting as my sister found a print of it many years ago in Cambridge UK - sadly it did not have a name on it. I would love to know who the original artist was - I know very little of my father's life between the two world wars and doubt that the print my sister had would have been a print of his work, but who knows.

Hi - Your 'painting' looks very much like a chromo-lithograph print that came out turn of the century c1880/1900 in its' original veneered maple frame. Cant be sure unless you look at it under a magnifying glass. Nice item.
