Your vase is made by Daisy Merton when she was living and working in Blakehurst.

Most of the photos shown under Jack Merton's name on that page are actually by Daisy or produced at her studio by her or other family members including Jack.

Two if not three of those pieces are actually Newtone pieces and unless signed may not even be Mertons at all.

Hi Nanny,

The Galleon vase, and the Koala were (in my opinion) both made at the Bakewells factory.

Since you were involved in the editing of the book you might be able shed some light on that one if I'm totally wrong.

The Kooka could swing either way but is (on second look) more than likely a Home made Merton.

Someone who isn't a Merton, who decorated for Bakewells (you've only got 2 other girls to choose from that's it!)

I have one each of the small and larger koalas, and both looks to be decorated by the same hand. The smaller one has the same "Hand Painted" stamp as a kookaburra ashtray which also has a Newtone label:

That does seem to agree with what Tim said about the koala.

Hi Wyvern,

I got a bit excited when I saw that sticker on the base of your Koala as the Shape number for all but a few animal pieces seem to be non existent. Alas, the hunt continues.

It's also interesting to see that big Koala with a closed in base as most you will see have the whole under side open which is the reason they were only marked with a sticker and not a printed Newtone mark.

Strangely too, you will see these Koala's with Trent stickers on them which would indicate a date of about 7 to 10 years AFTER daisy left Bakewells. Were Bakewells selling old stock or has Ford got his dates wrong? I don't believe the stickers are "recent" additions to these pieces either.
