What have you found ?

I went to a garage sale this morning and turned up some really nice old items. The pick was a large 1906 Theatre poster for " the Midnight Wedding" by " Mynell & Gunns Famous Dramatic Company." This one only cost $2.00 and I collect a few old posters, so this ones a keeper.

Ebayers turn up some amazing items at times. This thread could be a place to share your latest find.

What have you found ?

These days it is no longer the holy grail of decimal coinage however, although it's still quite hard to come across. It still has the record of being the most uncommon version of any Australian 5 cent coin by far.

Standard issue coins which are even harder to find in your change are:
1985 10c
1991 10c
1997 10c
2011 10c
1971 20c
1985 20c
1988 20c
1995 20c - United Nations
2003 20c - Australia's Volunteers: Making a Difference
2004 20c with larger Queen (the normal 2004 20c had a smaller than average head which was unique to this coin)
2011 20c - International Women's Day
2011 20c - International Year of Volunteers
2013 20c - Centenary of Canberra
1972 50c
1973 50c
1985 50c
1993 50c
1997 50c
1992 $1 (I have doubts these even exist, but apparently 8000 of them were stamped and are worth a fortune)
2000 $1 (yes, even the regular one is somewhat uncommon, let alone the $1/10c "mule")
2001 $1 - International Year of Volunteers
2003 $1 - Australia's Volunteers: Making a Difference
2004 $1
2005 $1 (standard kangaroo design)
2014 $1 (standard kangaroo design)
2015 $1 - 100 Years of ANZAC (same design as 2014 ANZAC but quite rare)
1993 $2
1998 $2 (slightly more made than the 1972 5c, but not by much so worthy of mention)
2000 $2
2011 $2
2012 $2 of any type whatsoever (normal, Remembrance or Remembrance with red poppy)
2013 $2 - Elizabeth II Coronation
2014 $2 - Remembrance with green design
2015 $2 - Remembrance with either red or orange design

The 2001 Federation 20c/50c pieces are also uncommon, but since a variant was made for every state and territory they do still show up. Collecting the lot can be a challenge. Speaking of Federation, I haven't seen one of those special $5 notes in ages, it's always the normal $5 notes or the new types. The original off-coloured "AA" $5 notes have all but vanished too.

I wish the mint would update their website to show the 2016 mintages, I have a feeling the 50th anniversary ones with the pre-decimal designs on them may be somewhat rare, I have seen exactly one $2 coin with the special obverse and no special $1 coins at all - I might have to visit a few pokie venues to get the $1. 🙂

The rarest coins I have ever received in my change was a 2000 off-centre 5c piece which went from a few dollars up to $40(!) on eBay, and a 1999 $1 The Last Anzacs (M mintmark e.g. Melbourne), which was supposed to be a collectable and not even meant to be in regular use!
