The 36-year-old pleaded guilty in Hobart's Supreme Court to two counts of using a carriage service to access child pornography and one count of possessing child exploitation material.

Police found more than 12,000 images of child pornography and 24 videos on his computer in June 2010 - at least 60 showing the explicit or sadistic treatment of children.

The details of the charges against the former presenter of Collectors were revealed in the Supreme Court yesterday more than two years after his arrest.

Muirhead now faces two weeks behind bars before being sentenced.

His defence lawyer says a psychologist's report found the Muirhead was not a paedophile and was not sexually aroused by children, but viewed the material to reduce tension.

The prosecutor said the report had no merit.

Chief Justice Ewan Crawford said he needed to consider whether he accepted the psychologist's report, and if he did not, more evidence may need to be called.

It is a sad situation as Andy was liked by so many Australians.

The rest of the crew carried on gallantly and it was even sadder to see the demise of the show.

Come on ABC..Bring back the Collectors,we loved it.

Typical profile of a rock spider.  Nice bloke easy to get a long with, everyone likes him.  Its all a big con and an abuse of trust. I am so glad that I am not one of his family or friends with kids. He needs to go to gaol and cop how they treat peadophiles in prison.  may he never ever know one day of freedom from fear.  Just like all those victims on his computer. I hope he squeeled about where he sourced the material and more arrests are made.

I don't thinik I would ever watch another Collectors, way too creepy for me, if they changed the format completely, I definately would.  New name, but with the same presenters, Gordon, Adrian and Claudia.

OMG how can he really expect people to understand the reason,he must have a screw loose,the reason makes it even worse if it could as i said above.

So i would like to know "how he released the tension",do i need more than 1 guess...........i think not!

I often wonder what becomes of these poor kiddies used & abused in this disgusting material that these creeps manage to locate on the internet so readily.

Are these children ever identified ?  Are they ever proved to be still living after these videos are made ?  I mean, when you hear of some of the people who are caught up in these pedophile rings they would probably find it 'safer' not to have the child still in existence to testify wouldn't it !

From what I gather a lot of these videos are made in coutries like russia or ukraine - where the child exploitation is rife, & life has little value, so it is a very scary thought to think what may happen to the kiddies after these sickos have finished with the poor child !!

At least it was good to hear of ONE of them that has been caught recently serving a dash of time !!!  You see the raids on TV & never hear another thing about these sick creeps.
