Australian law (privacy act) does nopt require any company or an entity to divulge that their site has been hacked.

The ABS did not immediately notify us that their site had been hacked (DOS) denial of service attack.

In fact the ABS tried to reassure the us that it was a glitch. ie they lied

Before I submit any form online(or vote for that matter) I am going to need alaw that requires mandatory reporting of cyber attacks or attempted cyber attacks

some background on the link

There is no law that requires the ATO to notify a taxpayer that their details may have been compromised online

4 dos attacks last night

did you hear anything ie a warning from the ABS after the first one, or the second one. or the third one or immediately after the fourth one..... or. was the message you got on your computer to "maaaaate it's all apples... just keep on trying" the only message you recieved from the ABS???

David have you got a spare form with a unique number I can have? Woman Sad

i live in a small coastal town, every second home is a holiday house so there are hundreds of the forms, the full paper fill out forms, sitting on doorsteps everywhere.

made me wonder what would stop someone gathering up dozens of them and filling them out with all sorts of crazy answers.

What annoys me is that they keep saying that your information is safe and there will be no cross referencing with other government agencies but they will fine you $180 per day if you do not provide the correct information.

How do they know the information is not correct if they have not cross referenced it?

I am also concerned that all identifying information is going to be kept...in previous years it was destroyed as soon as the data had been entered.

It would seem that they've been lying to us for years because identifying data was kept the whole time, but we were told it was only kept long enough for them to know that we'd actually filled out the forms.  They've also been linking personal data to other data sources so where will it end, and why bother to do a census at all if they already have so much information available to them?

Have a read of this article:  http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/census-without-your-names-we-wont-know-how-lon...

and this one:  http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-opinion/census-meltdown-just-the-latest-bureau-of-s...

They may only keep our names for four years but the information links will be there forever, which means they can easily get our names again if they want to, just as the US used census statistics to round up all its Japanese citizens in WW2, but never admitted this until recent years.
