I have today somehow ended on some Russian part of Facebook, and they are pretty angry for Russia being blamed;  apparently the plane was not on course, and according to Russian radar records there were also Ukrainian fighter planes in the air very close to the Malaysian airliner.

Russian military sources also claimed the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 started losing speed three minutes before it went off radar screens and crashed in eastern Ukraine.

'The plane began to steadily lose speed at 17.20 and disappeared from radar screens at 17.23,' alleged Kartapolov. 'The plane followed the established air corridor until Donetsk and then veered off its course to the north.'

He said the plane, which at one point was as much as 14 kilometres off course, attempted to return to the air corridor but crashed before completing the manoeuvre. Everyone on board - a total of 298 people - was killed as a result.


'The reason for flying off the course - whether the crew made a navigational error or followed Ukrainian air traffic control commands - can be learned only from flight recorders, known as 'black boxes' and from recorded communications of the air traffic control,' he claimed

Supernova I would not believe any thing on Face book, russian face book even less, what did you expect them to say yes we armed the rebels and we are sorry !!

Our media, just as th Russian media do, in cases like these, only report what the authorities say.  And as nobody but some rebel fighters and possibly Ukrainian pilots were there, we will have to wait until the experts see if there is anything in the flight data recorder  and the cockpit voice recorder that will shed some light on the tragedy.

I also listened to aviation disaster expert on lateline last night, who said that although all points to the plane being shot down from the ground, the possibility of there being a bomb on board cannot be totally discarded.

Whatever the real story both Abbott and Bishop had no right to be throwing accusations around without any solid evidence.  That is not the way for head of country to conduct themselves on international stage. Even if they are proved right in the end.  As much as I dislike Putin (everything about him) he has shown much more class in his response.

No, I just find it interesting to see what pople on the other side are told and what they think.  We make our opinions an the basis what we are told, they make theirs by what they read in their papers.  When we were told there ar weapons of mass destruction in Iraq many people believed it. 

Anyway the Dutch now have the flight recorders, so there will be more info.  In any case, ust because there were Ukrainian fighter planes nar by, does not man they shot the airliner down; but it might be that rebels were trying to shoot them and missed.
