The rebels have had the flight recorders for days now, so as long as they have not been tampered with, we may find out.
I dont think they will find much, there may be a chance of a quick swear word or a noise of a explosion.
With all the satellites up there a lot of countries will have the data on the missile being fired.

The last thing I read said the rebels are probably going to use the black boxes and the bodies ( which are being stored on stationary refrigerated trains at present in an area controlled by rebels) as bargaining tools.

Update:
Malaysia Airlines Diverts Plane Over Another War Zone After MH17 Crash
Malaysia Airlines diverted one of its planes from Ukraine to another war zone: Syria.
On Sunday, the airline re-routed its flight MH4 from Kuala Lumpur to London over Syrian airspace, after the Ukraine route was closed in the wake of Flight 17's downing last Thursday.
Malaysia Airlines released a statement acknowledging that a flight flew through Syrian airspace on Sunday, but referred to the Flightradar24 tweet as a "misunderstanding."
"MH004’s flight plan is in accordance to International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) approved routes. As per the notice to airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, the Syrian airspace was not subject to restrictions," the airline's statement said.
"At all times, MH004 was in airspace approved by ICAO. Malaysia Airlines maintains that safety of its passengers and crew is of utmost priority."

ref......we will have to wait until the experts see if there is anything in the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder that will shed some light on the tragedy.
..................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Why? Any flight path taken by the plane would have been recorded by many from several sources in real time and recorded by these sources. Anything spoken and sounds made from cockpit to and from air traffic controllers would also have been recorded in real time by traffic control - not just by the planes cockpit voice recorder.
Might I suggest and IMO if you believe that the only answers are going to be when/if these couple of bits of recording technology will/can be found you will be mightily disappointed.
e.g.....something like - the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder cannot be located or they have been erased or tampered with or damaged etc.
....just a hunch

ref.
'The reason for flying off the course - whether the crew made a navigational error or followed Ukrainian air traffic control commands - can be learned only from flight recorders, known as 'black boxes' and from recorded communications of the air traffic control,' he claimed
correct.

I doubt whether the black boxes are going to to add much to the investigation. True, the flight data recorder could show if the plane had changed course, but since there is no argument about where it crashed, the flight path must be pretty easy to determine anyway. I can't imagine the cockpit voice recorder will be very helpful either. The missile strike would have happened so suddenly there would have been more than a couple of "bleeps" before it was all over.
I believe there is an unconfirmed Russian report that a Ukrainian military plane was in the area at the time. If this is true it might well help to explain how the separatists made such an appalling mistake.
