A Little Bit Of Megxit Humour.

I have nothing against Harry and Meghan - in fact I applaud them for wanting to cut their ties with the Royal family and earn their own living - but a letter in today's West Australian suggesting Hary should be made Governor General of Australia reminded me of a poem by Hilaire Belloc.

You can read the whole poem here: https://monologues.co.uk/Childrens_Favourites/Lord_Lundy.htm   but the extracts that really tickled my funny bone were the following:

Lord Lundy from his earliest years

Was far too freely moved to Tears.

. . . . . . . . . . .

His Grandmamma, His Mother's (or in Harry's case of course Father's) Mother,

Who had some dignity or other,

The Garter, or no matter what,

I can't remember all the Lot!

Said "Oh! That I were Brisk and Spry

To give him that for which to cry!"

(An empty wish, alas! For she

Was Blind and nearly ninety-three).

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. .

The Duke -- his aged grand-sire -- bore

The shame till he could bear no more.

He rallied his declining powers,

Summoned the youth to Brackley Towers,

And bitterly addressed him thus--

"Sir! you have disappointed us!

We had intended you to be

The next Prime Minister but three:

The stocks were sold; the Press was squared:

The Middle Class was quite prepared.

But as it is! . . . My language fails!

Go out and govern New South Wales!"

Re: A Little Bit Of Megxit Humour.

Woman LOL I asked for that, didn't I.

The point I was trying to make is that wealth and privilege may not equate to an enviable lifestyle when weighed against the overwelmingly restrictions  that govern every aspect of every living moment of that life. And bear in mind it's not a lifestyle  he chose for himself - it's one he awas saddled with at birth.

One he has actively courted

He has done what was expected of him. I don't think that's 'courting' anything. and now he's had a gutful and he wants out.

Re: A Little Bit Of Megxit Humour.

I don't have to bear anything in mind.

He was born into - what he was born into - I respect the family as a tradition - but the trimmings - not so much.

I'm aware of the revenue they bring to the UK.

The 'pomp & ceremony ' - the ' protocol ' etc is a bit dusty - now in 2020.

And - one half of me - simply questions why - older peeps in the UK - die each year from the cold - when others have an outrageous amount stashed.

But back onto humour - I have read Betty heats Buckingham Palace with a 55 buck heater - frugal little old lady that she is.

No, but I wouldn't try to monetise my position, either. I suspect that's driven by the 'M' half, but I doubt anybody will ever know.

I think a lot of these shenanigans are driven by the M half of the marriage.

I doubt that Harry would have ever treated his grandmother the way he has without something/someone in his ear.

This is the first time in memory that a member of the Royal family has taken court action where it looks like the case will actually go to court.....these cases are usually settled out of court but it looks like the papers are going to screw M as much as they can just because they can.

I doubt that they will ever live in the UK again.....certainly Megha is telling her friends that she will never go back to live.  I find it interesting that they took their dogs to Canada, now the staff is being let go from Frogmore.

What millstone?

Their brand has been estimated as being worth 500 million quid. Not forgetting the stipend Harry gets from Daddy's serfs.

And the fact that he's a multi-millionaire due to his inheritance from his mother.

Re: A Little Bit Of Megxit Humour.

I agree with you, I'd say most of this is being driven by the M half.

I think it is a shame in that M knew very well what she was marrying into and that included living in England.

I also suspect that if H had married any of his other girlfriends, they would not be 'moving to Canada'.

I think it is only fair that they were stripped of their royal titles. If you're not doing the job, you can't expect the side perks.

I actually find it ironic that they want to make a living out of using sussex royal as a brand. That's not an independent living, that's still sucking on the royal teat. I certainly wouldn't be buying any of it.

H has done a lot for his country and been involved in a lot of worthwhile charities. I know he has been relegated to a minor royal position after the birth of his niece and nephews, but I can't help thinking it is a pity they had to do all this now, rather than, say, in another few years. They would not have had to wait long. The queen and Prince Phillip could have done without this stress at their time of life.

He won't get that until he turns 40 - another 5 years.
