Oh but the alternative is so much better! You get to spend obscene amounts of money you don't have, buying useless presents for people that they don't want, don't need and don't like, that they'll regift (maybe to you), or flog off on eBay. Then you get the spend the day with family, untimately ending up in fights, leading to someone storming out and not speaking to anyone for the next 10 years. Granny ends up in tears because it's the only time of the year she can get all her nearest and dearest together. Who needs a pub when you can have that?
