The only comment that is worth anything at all is :-

The Internet is only as fast as the slowest link in the chain from source to destination.

As most content originates from off shore and takes as many as 20 or more "hops" from origin to destination, having a fast final link is as attributing mammories to a bull.

Another point, it is now being claimed the The NBN will deliver a 1 Gigabit per second data transfer rate ( I shudder to think what that would cost per month $20,000 perhaps) and you have a monthly allocation of say 200 gigabytes, you would blow your monthly allocation in 53.33 minutes. If you could find a server that could serve up your data at that rate that is. At this point we are entering the realms of science fiction.

But don't take my word for it do some research and the math yourself

Guess what. The speed everywhere gets faster all the time.

Remember when it used to be $5 an hour and had no photos?

And in the meantime everyone gets forced into paying for a portion of the White Elephant that will be sedentary instead having mobility.

By the way what is the monthly cost of a 1 gigabit link? Am I in the ballpark with $20,000 per month?

1Gb links are not available yet and it would depend on the retailer.

You're not forced to pay anything for my connections, none of which sits idly anot getting used.

I distinctly heard the government communications minister correct the shadow communications minister as to what data transfer rate the NBN Co. was offering it was 1 gigabit per second he actually stressed that point.

Are yousaying that it is not available?? Oh dear was the communications minister telling porkies?

Am I mistaken in my understanding that the NBN is government funded? I think not, therefore my taxes are buying a bit of the Pale Pachyderm, I have no choice in the matter.

You are mistaken about the funding arrangements also, it is not coming out of your taxes.

Any idea IF and WHEN 1 Gigabit transfer rate WILL be available? Or is that pie in the sky?
