The agenda for this months meeting of the Liberal party in melbourne includes the discussion topic of selling off the ABC and SBS. Why is this fervour for selling off public broadcasters suddenly on the agenda ?
do they fear the minutest amount of honest broadcasting, and do they think it a better media environment for them will exist if nobody out there is in any position to criticise ? its not as if the ABC are backing the other side of politics .. if anything the ABC has a distinct conservative tone to its news and current affairs programs these days.
So much for all the breast-beating around 'freedom of the press'
selling the public broadcasters is suppressing such freedoms surely ?

And the actual story:-
The Federal Opposition says it will not privatise SBS or the ABC despite pressure from the Victorian Liberal Party to sell off the public broadcasters.
The facts can be such a drag(net).........."Just the facts, ma'am"

"Didn't you notice that all important question mark at the end of the OP Monman?"
You mean at the end of the final paragraph TGSE? :-
"So much for all the breast-beating around 'freedom of the press'
selling the public broadcasters is suppressing such freedoms surely ?"
I would assert that means: 'surely selling the public broadcasters is suppressing freedom of the press', nothing to do with the title: "ABC SBS to be sold ?" This title whilst appearing to be a question, is followed by conjecture and this gem "The agenda for this months meeting of the Liberal party in melbourne".
Whatever happened to" of the Victorian Liberal party in melbourne, which all the news I have read mentions?
Whatever happened to "This weekend the Victorian Liberal Partyโs state conference will vote on a motion urging the federal Coalition to make a full-scale โoperational reviewโ of both broadcasters.?
Whatever happened to "Shadow communications minister Malcolm Turnbull has rejected the proposal, ruling out privatising the ABC and SBS if the Coalition wins government in September.? A spokesman for Mr Turnbull told Fairfax Media: ''There are no plans to privatise the ABC or even review privatising the ABC.''
Mr Abbott also ruled out the idea.
Whatever happened? I know, LL has been communicating with Conroy.
"Communications Minister Stephen Conroy said the motion was a ''clear warning'' of the policies to expect if the Coalition wins the next election."
Looks like Conroy does not research/read either

sorry John, its on the IPA wish list and is under consideration. Malcolm is also very challenged when it comes to the truth, as evidenced by his NBN FUD campaign where he lies blatantly.

greasy ipa mob website headlines proves wot their agenda is
"the abc is great. we should privatise it"
"why have an abc at all"
"selling the abc and other tricky media issues"
"the best way for the right to win culture wars is to privatise them"

No
I do that sometimes....Too lazy to type the whole name, making sure I don't make mistakes....I just copy and paste the user ID from above the avi and when you do that, it includes link to the profile. To avoid that, highlight the ID after C&P and then click on the broken link symbol up there ^^^ - that will remove the link. I really hope that was what karliandjacko was objecting to otherwise this will make no sense at all. :^O

LL: "sorry John, its on the IPA wish list and is under consideration."
Happily this aspect of the IPA wish list will remain just that, in the meantime it will give some of the Vic Libs a cheap thrill, and the media, cheap headlines.

No, I meant at the end of the title. ABC SBS to be sold ?
I read it to mean 'OMG, surely they cannot be serious.'
I wish I could be as confident as you, John, that it will remain merely on the IPA wishlist. I know Abbott and Turnbull have both 'promised' it won't happen, but you know what they say about politicians and lying - 'watch their lips: if they're moving, they're lying.
We are currently learning that lesson the hard way only weeks after the WA election.:-(

Ahhhh The Liberal Agenda....privatise everything.
It worked with the utilities in my state.....Now these private companies do not have to answer to the government like they did in the past when they raise prices.
It worled with public transport where the winning contractor for the buses is the company that will charge the least and whose drivers regularly get lost on their own routes.
I find it funny this will occur after 'crikey' was bought by news ltd and the whole 'Labour is trying to silence free speech by the press'
Hypocritcal as always.
