bright shiney with everything that money can buy.

reality mate is more like this,

sure, it still works and does an ok job, but?

do ya really think it can compete with a bright shinny new tractor?

It's actually better to have the old tractor.
Owners aren't allowed to service new ones and it can be days before a service represtative will turn up to your farm and they cost a fortune

I actually own an old 1950,s Fordson Super Major  tractor not unlike Daves second photo. It does all of the mowing around the sheds, lays water pipe lines, carts rolls of hay around the farm etc. The old banger is bullet proof and starts every time even if left 12 months between starts. I would much prefer that reliable 60 year old girl to a shiny new one any day.

Re: ABC becomes the story

The ABC has regularly been the subject of criticism from a number of quarters;

But that means nothing unless we know what those 'number of quarters' were. For example, The Murdoch Press, Ray Hadley, Miranda Devine and Andrew Bolt could be described as 'a number of sources' but they hardly represent an unbiased opinion.

I don'tknow if anyone watched Media Watch last night but Paul Barrymade  some very telling points. Mainly that while ABC executives are suposed to be chosen by an independnt panel, that panel is usually stacked in favour of the government of the day and their shortlist  can be overlooked or overridden by the Minister for Communications.

He aso pointed out that a previous chair of the board had to stand up to and defend his staff against pressure and demands from Bob Hawke under his Labor Government.

It is inevitable that the Government of the day is always  going to be the party in the cross-hairs of a national broadcaster.

Re: ABC becomes the story

The Coalition wants the ABC furore to blow over but its fingerprints are all over this mess

Here is what you need to know about how and why all this happened.

  • The Coalition cuts the ABC’s budget to the tune of $546m over four years.

  • The Coalition appoints Justin Milne, a personal friend of former PM Malcolm Turnbull, as ABC chairman. Milne, according to documents leaked to the media, attempts to interfere with the ABC’s editorial independence to please the Coalition.

You could not make this up.

I should have addressed this post to Chameleon, but he's not listening (it's a well known characteristic of the LNP and their supporters)

It is becoming more widely accepted that right wing brains are wired differently.
So it's not that he isn't listening but is incapable of understanding.
Right wing brains register more disgust and startle responses.
The poor right winger is scared all the time time and doesn't know it because they don't know any differently.
We should feel sorry for them but because they cause so much damage to the fabric of a free and rationa society it would make more sense to eat them.
Thus solving two problems, overpopulation and world hunger
