ABC " Breathtakingly irresponsible " for promoting illegal Invasion day rallies

The NSW Police Commissioner has branded the ABC as " breathtakingly irresponsible "  for promoting illegal invasion day rallies that breached COVID restrictions, after it posted a programme of events titled Australia Day / Invasion day events programme.

The ABC was forced to change the title and editorial material after it received a barrage of protests against its unprofessional reporting standards.

Just another example of how our national taxpayer funded broadcaster has become beholden to special interest groups and completely forgotten its charter to present news in a factual, professional, unbiased way

It's time that ABC management grew some balls, and stopped caving in to these right-wing raving loonie dingbats every trime they see some news or facts that they don't like.

If the ABC continues to let itself be pushed further and further to the right at the current and recent rate, it will end up as nothing more than a publicly-funded version of yet another LNP Newsletter from the Murdoch Slime Pool.

While at the moment it is continuing down the track as nothing more than a tax-payer funded lefty brain-washing machine.

Well you're in no danger, then.

Problem is that most of ABC management was appointed by the current government.

Of the 9 board members, 1 is staff elected and 6 were appointed by the current or preceding governments. Only 2 preceded the current LNP governments.

So that gives them 6 of 9.

And still the ABC refuses to be pushed to the right? Or is loonie left according to the OP?

I suspect an agenda from the OP, and never expect a reasoned response on political issues.

" Breathtakingly irresponsible " They are not my words, that is the response of the N.S.W police commissioner. His concern is that the taxpayer funded national broadcaster is promoting and inciting people to attend an illegal event that has the potential to risk peoples lives if a COVID -19 carrier is present. Given all of the air time the ABC has devoted to COVID it is almost bizzarre that they would be promoting an illegal large gathering at a time like this.

Police commissioner's are noted for being a-political and usually pretty moderate in their responses to issues.

You might be able to disregard my opinion, but I think you would have to agree when some-one of this stature is ringing the alarm bells its time to start being a bit more honest about the conduct of our national broadcaster.

6 of 9 board members were appointed by the current right-wing government and their predecessor.

Maybe they didn't pick well, or maybe the board members take the charter seriously. Either way, one rotten apple...

Kelly and Christiansen. 2 rotten apples, left alone to sow their divisive right-wing rubbish without censure.

"our national taxpayer funded broadcaster "

Feel free to critisise the Murdoch propaganda and lies media empire, chameleon. Morrison has handed over ten of millions of money to that organization which makes it partially tax payer funded.

The Murdoch press is a privately owned and funded organisation. It can print what it likes, when it likes within Australia's media laws.

There is simply no comparison to be made with a private company and the 100% taxpayer funded national broadcaster that has a charter of responsibility to provide impartial, non partisan news and current affairs.

When Trump incited his supporters to attend an illegal protest that had the potential ( and eventually did ) result in loss of life it was justifiably an outrage.

When Australia's national broadcaster is promoting and inciting people to place lives at risk through COVID, by attending a large illegal protest rally when a new virulent strain of the virus is knocking on our door, its perfectly OK because its a lefty hug fest.

The hypocrisy is breathtaking !

Enough time to write cheques for a billionaire but not enough time to get a federal ICAC up and running after promising to do so 2 years ago. Breathtaking!!!

Breathtakingly irresponsible is right.

The ABC is supposed to be as impartial as possible and give equal time to different political views.

It's job though isn't to divide society, which it seems to be trying to do.

Here we have them promoting rallies that-let's forget Covid just for a moment-could very well lead to violence.

They are inciting riots.

Just recently we have had a flurry of posts about how evil Trump was for doing just that same sort of thing eg "Let's march... " etc

Surprise, surprise, the march led to trouble and we're seeing calls for Trump to be answerable, aren't we? In fact, some wanted him impeached.

So, if these rallies lead to trouble, who is being held accountable?

during the height of the pandemic here in Melbourne.. the Herald/ Sun was advertising  qanon and anti maskers rallies.. by constantly giving the times and locations, even maps of where to join them... at one stage they even published a politicians address and a photo of his home, telling their readers there would be a protest outside his house and when it would be

As far as everyday people feeling the need to protest in support of Indigenous Australians and injustices, I am in total agreement. And for Indigenous Australians to regard Australia Day as nothing more than "Invasion Day", I have total understanding for how they feel. I agree with them!  I have the same thoughts on people wanting to protest in the US against the deliberate brutal killing of African Americans by law enforcement representatives. As far as I'm concerned, now is a good time as any. to get up and march.  People cannot continually keep things bottled up and hope for someone to fix things. So peaceful protest to bring attention to a serious issue that impacts on a people has my understanding.

Like the BLM protests in the US, I know that the majority of people marching are genuine folk who are disgusted with what has been taking place in their countries. Some of what goes on here and over there with how some non-Caucasian people etc. are treated wouldn't be out  of place in the Nazi Germany period. Perhaps too I should include apartheid brutality in South Africa. Sadly these issues have been hijacked by certain interest groups and being steered for an agenda other than what they are supposed to  represent. This is what I feel.

Up until the last few years I had always thought of the ABC as a saviour in news and an antidote to the racist and religious hate / xenophobia promoted by the other main media outlets. IMO, Ch 9 was one of the worst offenders.  The ABC used to have some brilliant documentaries and its reporting on world events was spectacular. We got to see the dirt behind the decision to invade Afghanistan and Iraq, we saw how oil companies were involved in destroying people's lives and silencing activists permanently. We saw the Palestinian people being humanised for a change and now were able to understand their plight along with the plight of other people.

I'd like to think that the end of the documentary I caught about what Clinton was really up to ( The Clinton Chronicles  by Larry Nichols from memory )  was on ABC and not SBS.. It was interesting. Yes, there were some great documentaries on the ABC.

Yes, the ABC was the antidote to what is pushed out by the Murdoch Media to program us. With people like Andrew Bolt and Alan Jones who play on people's emotions and fears, the ABC was the restorer of logic. But what has happened?  It is no longer what it used to be! There's just 20% good content and a lot of it now is garbage. Part of the ABC's deterioation I believe is due to that John Howard. He had his agenda. Now other interest groups have taken over.

You would think the ABC would give fair re[resentation of issues that relate to our health. If  anyone thinks the ABC is going to fairly address all angles of the fluoride, vaccination issues etc., forget it! I believe that these days there is no difference between the ABC and the other outlets that promote this counterfeit conservatism.
