There is a huge difference between those parents who are lazy and those with a child Dx with ADHD.................the diagnosis and the treatment/medication is a long road that lazy parents wouldn't travel.

Donna, I take it that you dont have a child with ADHD?
As Az just said, parents that have a child or children with ADHD, have a long hard road ahead of them. My grandson is 9yrs. He was diagnosed at 6yrs, by a top pediatrician at Monash medical centre here in Melbourne. He was put through numerous testing & it took along time.
Then it was trial and error of what medication suited him and the medication was not cheap.
His teachers have been wonderful with him and other children in his classes that also ADHD or other issues.
Saying that children with ADHD stop teachers from teaching the other kids is rubbish. It is in the teachers best interest to help all children including those with problems like ADHD.
Once diagnosed with ADHD, it is ongoing, the medication is very expensive, and only parents with children that have ADHD would pay for it.
It is not an imaginary condition, it is very real for the children and adults that have it..........

I think Donna was agreeing with Polks ie "Yes, it does exist, and yes, it is often used as an excuse."
I also agree with that and I agee with Donna's examples. I have seen them.

I also believe that many parents look at medication to make their life easier, I also strongly believe that children with special needs should be given the opportunity to learn in mainstream schools, it teaches them and their classmates a lot about life. One of my closest friends who is a special needs teacher with a son who has downs syndrome pushed to have him educated in public schools, he does not have one friend with the same disability now in adult life.

Australia has the highest rate of children put on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder drugs in the world.
"Most children who get a diagnosis of ADHD are wrongly diagnosed," Professor Jureidini said.

I do not know how the diagnosis is made today, but 20 years ago, it entailed a visit to a paediatric neurologist who said yay or nay often without any testing. It appears that nothing much has changed. The headline above is horrifiying to me.
