The Adam Scott Foundation Autism Grants Program is available to young people, aged 6-16 as of 16 November 2010, with an Autism Diagnosis across Australia. To be eligible you must be a permanent Australian resident.

Can anyone tell me why a special education unit would insist on a fully toilet trained 4 yo sitting on the toilet because everyone does at set times?X-(
in her daily communication journal....she point blank refused to sit on the toilet😮 and when they insisted she had a tantrum.
It's almost as if they have no idea what ASD is.

Az, it is a matter of the child having to learn to follow the rules. It is really important that understand that they have to conform to fit in properly at school. When she goes to school next year she will have to go to the toilet at set times.

Also if they allow her to not go to the toilet then she will be setting an example to all the other kids that they too don't need to do go. (or follow the rules)

It is really hard to see your little granddaughter have tantrums at things that might seem trivial but just imagine how that can flow through to other issues at school next year.

It seems harsh but they do it for a reason.

maybe it is worth talking to them and asking them why they do things a certain way? It might help if they can take the time to explain things.

I can only imagine how hard it is for you to see her go though these hard times as such a young age. But I promise you that it will be worth it in the long run. I wish my son had that sort of training at that age then he might not be so defiant now..

Unfortunately, they do not communicate....... unless it is to dismiss any concerns we have with "they know best"
Miss is a rules person, if they tell her it is a rule, she will comply.....their tactics are, or seem to be, herd mentality.
She will be in prep next year and both my sister in law and my daughter, have taught prep.......toileting is not an issue with regards times...however, all they have to do is explain the routine.
I am annoyed not only with this issue, there are others.....they appear to run under their own rules, some would be unacceptable if challenged in the right places, IYKWIM.
It seems almost like a return to the days of cold cruel orphanages. I have asked my daughter to call the team contact who referred her to this kindy.

I forgot to say, the teacher wrote a reply to my daughter's queries in a very sarcastic manner.

There are guidelines that must be followed and by the sounds of it there not up to scratch.

Now that you are doing homeschooling there must be funding available to you as the "teacher aid"

I am going to have coffee with a wonderful lady today.. she has an aspie and a dyslexic in her family and I heard she was doing a bit of home schooling.. I will see if she has any advice on where to look next..
