Evening all.Been really busy and havent had much time to chat but has been a very interesting week here.After trying for 5 years to teach Darcy to tie his laces he finally did it.Picked it up last week and hasnt stopped.Its funny some people look at me weird when I tell them like it isnt a big deal but others know how hard its been for him and have congratulated him.And today he was graded in karate form a white belt to a red belt.His teacher said he would grade him to boost his confidence and when it was time to present him with his new belt his teacher read his certificate out to the whole room.Dad took him and I dont know who was prouder.So all in all its been a productive week here for my boy.

Well done to Darcy, that first coloured belt is a big step 🙂

WRT shoelaces, at 16 ds can only tie the rabbit ears way and it takes him forever. He just cannot get his head around it - probably tied in with why he finds writing difficult, motor processing stuff. So well done on that front as well Darcy!

Lisa I hope the new school works out well - the states are all so different in what they offer. We don't have ED schools or Autism schools as such, but Special ed units in mainstream schools and Special Schools for severely disabled kids.

Whats an ED school Lisa?

I contemplated putting DD back in an SDS but after consultation with OH its back to homeschooling. I would have liked her to have a break from being at home, but it'll be back to the books and homeschooling after the holidays.

Chit Chat an Ed school is a Emotional development school. Its usually for children that dont fit into the the run of the mill schooling. These children have all sorts of problems the one my son may be possibly going to has a lot of kids with Autism. Thats why I chose that particular one the staff are trained in that area. The ratio is 7 students to 2 teachers (1 teacher...1 aid) so the teacher is always there for the student.
The hours are cut right back to stop early morning triggers and late afternoon triggers 9.30-2.30 is the day.

Although the children do have "normal" school work they do alot of extra things our children love to do such as cooking, music.
If the kids are falling behind in school work they just start at their level and work their way up if the child is advanced they accomadate that.
The whole purpose is to find your childs triggers and try and get them to fit back into main stream schooling without a fuss. (hopefully) 🙂
The ed is 4 days a week and their home school is 1 day so they dont lose where that came from and stay conected the 2 teachers work together to see what works for that particular student.

I think thats about it 🙂

Hi everybody

My SIL and her hubby are just now embarking on this journey , their almost 3 year old , is virtually uncontrollable at the moment , with tatrums , he has virtually no communication , has no idea on toileting , is becoming incresingly violent, stripping off naked and doing 1's and 2's where ever and screams and fights when you try to put a nappy or clothes back on him ..........

They are not really coping at all at the moment and has so far been refused emergency appointments by 7 paed's....she will just have to wait for her scheduled appointment. I told her if he gets too much to go to the childrens hospital , tell them you need help , you are asking for help and nobody seems to be listening.........

She is also waiting to have him assesed by the PCAT team at westmead childrens , but apparently it could take months....:_|

There is only so much that I can do ...i currently have her 18mth old staying with me to relieve some of the pressure ( OMG i had forgotten how tiring they are LOL) and am phoning her daily .......

I have been reading heaps and looking at what i can find i would expect his diagnosis to be autism.

It just seems to take soooo long to get somebody to diagnose him , once he is diagnosed I have found a whole range of services both for Mr 3 and Mum & Dad ........Dad is in denial and wont accept that there is anything wrong because he is a very clever kid , he just doesnt get that can be part of his problem too.

Sorry, I have no advice other than to keep asking.

As for Dad being in denial, that is all too common. 😞 People don't want to have a child with difficulties - it's too scary. It also may be scary because autism (if that is your nephew's problem) can be hereditary and some parents don't want to contemplate that they may have it too.
