Adam Goodes Vs the spreaders of hate

We have people spreading the hate for everyone from the PM to the disabled and refugees everyday.

Today we have Adam Goodes, who truly lived up to his name.

Re: Adam Goodes Vs the spreaders of hate

This thread has been going on for two years.  That's two years Adam Goodes has had to accept the booing and racism.  Yes it is either racism or it is just sheepish bogan and possibly drunken behaviour from parts of the crowd. No wonder he's had enough.

Even when he was named Australian of the year he had to deal with the knockers.  This is an old story but I think it sums up that time quite well.

Carey bought the boos upon himself by being a cheat.  He got the boos for doing the dirty on his friend.

Goodes "crime" is that he got the AUstralian of the Year award, because he spoke on the "it stops with me" campaign,  because he points out racism.  He hasn't learned that we like our black Aussie sportspeople when they shut up and pretend there is no racism.  We don't like it when they bring racism to our attention.

Re: Adam Goodes Vs the spreaders of hate

I think Waleed Aly nailed it on the head on the Insiders program.

“I think it was the fact that this was some kind of cultural expression that some people found confronting,” Aly said.“There is no mystery about this at all. And it’s not as simple as it being about race, it’s about something else. “It’s about the fact that Australia is generally a very tolerant society until its minorities demonstrate that they don’t know their place. And at that moment, the minute someone in a minority position acts as though they’re not a mere supplicant, then we lose our minds. And we say, ‘No, no, you’ve got to get back in your box here’.

“And that’s why Adam Goodes ruffles feathers. It’s not ‘cos he’s controversial, it’s not ‘cos he’s a provocateur, it’s none of that. It’s because he actually says, I’m going to say something…’ “What happens is the minute an Indigenous man stands up and is something other than compliant, the backlash is huge and it is them who are creating division and destroying our culture. And that is ultimately what we boo. We boo our discomfort.”

Re: Adam Goodes Vs the spreaders of hate

not sure if it has anything to do with being

a bogan or a drunk.

fans either cheer or boo.  its like that everywhere,

not just australia.   its always been part of football.
