why did i say it? WHY!
worst thing possible when you have evaporative airconditioning.....
NO WATER!
looks like theres been a pipe bust somewhere up the road as the water mains has stopped!
i just saw a guy looks like a plumber 'fluro shirt carrying a pipe wrench' walking up the road. i can see there has been water running down the road. its not now.
ok, the water has started to flow again as i type.
it'll take a while to start making cool air.
i do have a reverse cycle split system airconditioner in the lounge but it really doesnt work well enough to cool the whole house on a hot day. ive started that, its better than nothing.

evaporatives work well when you run them 24/7 but once you get a break, like the water going off, and the house heats up its very hard to get that heat out of the house again.
the inside temp hit 32C when i realised the water was off.

still 48C outside

David I have a swampy on the roof and think they're great.
Much cheaper than refrigerated cooling.
You only have to pay for the fan, and that works out at 3c an hour for a swampy
to do the whole house.
I have it going 24/7 these days.
Glad you weren't without something to cool you guys.
It got up to 42 here in Melbourne.

Hope they can get it sorted out soon David. I have SS's, I often run them of fan only cycle but on days like this I use the cool cycle, I like them for winter 'cause its gets quite cold here and I dont do cold

The wife is in hospital in Adelaide, ( 45.5 according to willyweather ) but it is too hot to visit her. I have had to stay home to water her petunias and keep the dogs alive. They are on the back of the ute, parked under a shady carport where the breeze flows through. I,m going out with the garden hose every half hour and hosing them down, leaving a puddle on the ute tray for them to sit in.
Sorry you wife is unwell ..... Cant you bring the dogs inside and and crate them in the ac? Its wayyyy to hot for them to be outside, even if they are in the shade .....
The dogs are farm dogs, used to being outside and free. They are not used to confinement in crates and the stress of crating on top of the heat would not be the best.
One of the dogs is quite old and we have brought him inside on past hot days, letting him roam the house. I stayed home from work today, specifically to bring him inside if he looked stressed, but there was a nice breeze blowing through the carport and I kept the ute tray wet all day. The dogs looked quite comfortable sitting in the puddles on the ute tray. It was probably better out there in the breeze than inside the house, which was pretty stuffy and unpleasant.
I took the dogs out to the farm on dusk and let them have a long swim in one of the dams. All up we got through OK and hopefully the wifes petunias will perk back up overnight.
