They are all my beautiful old vintage cotton and linen Italian sheets. And I want them crisp and perfectly white without yucky looking stains.
I have tried bleaching them and left them in the sun for days but still nothing.
(I am sure you can guess the stains I mean)

From memory I used to use cold water (after 2 weeks it was pretty cold anyway - lol) cos my mum told me that some stains were set by hot water (blood and chocolate come to mind and red things)
I had 3 nappy buckets on the go - I'd start with enough hot water to disolve the napisan, (never measured it though, just sorta tipped it in till i figured it was enough) and then fill up with cold water.
Then each night after work, I'd hit the whites with the pre wash stain remover, let that soak in for a while, and then dump em in the current bucket. (I only ever made the mistake of not submerging my chef;'s jackets in water immediately once - CRIKEY it stunk the next morning!) At the end of each week I would wash the first bucket, which by now had been soaking for 2 weeks, and everything used to come up bright, shiny and white with no stains.
It was a relief when I finally started getting jobs where they supplied and laundered everything! Just rock up each morning for work and ask the nice lady in housekeeping for a nice clean uniform and then toss it in the dirty hamper at the end of the shift or if you got too dirty during your shift - worked for me LOLOLOL
