don't like kids don't want kids. don't like your mum/dad/dog or taste in music. if the person is a vegetarian , eat a dripping fish -shop burger in front of them, make a pass at all of her friends.. the list goes on.. its a limitless timeless strategy. you don't have to break them any bad news and suffer awkwardness, just find out what it is they don't like. an ex taught me this method, and its easier on everybody concerned.

On a more serious note - my suggestion is to say it simply, quickly and kindly. Rejection is always going to hurt but a straight forward rejection delivered with respect is the least possible hurt.
