Alcohol question

If a small framed female say weighing around 46 - 50 kilos drank bourbon and coke from around 3.20pm to between 9 - 10 every week night do you believe she would still be over the limit if she got in her car to drive at say 6am the morning after .

Someone i know drinks like this and its more on a Friday and Saturday night as she stays up later. She doesnt see her drinking as a problem because she budgets for it . In 6 days she has drunk 2 x 1.25 ltrs bourbon and started on a 3rd not to mention all the coke tht she has also .

I believe if she got pulled over on the way to work one morning she would blow over the limit, would you agree ?

Re: Alcohol question

Many years ago when I did a RSA course we were told as a general rule of thumb, once you had reached the legal limit (one drink in the first hour for women and 2 for men) for every drink you have after that you should allow one hour for it to leave your system.  So in your example if she has had 1 drink per hour for 6 hours it would take about 5-6 hours for her to be safe to drive.

Obviously that is not scientific and shouldn't be taken as the same in every person, but that was the theory back then.  The thinking

may well have changed by now though.

Re: Alcohol question

As said, everyone is different but at a guess, I would say a very good chance she would be over the limit sometimes.

Especially if she doesn't eat anything at the same time. A portable tester as a gift might be good.

The drinking could creep into weeknights as well and  there could begin to be health problems with kidneys, liver, bladder, not just from the bourbon but the coke also.

It can be difficult to help but perhaps a new activity, something to break the cycle.

Re: Alcohol question

It is during the week also , 7 days a week , just that friday and saturdays she drinks more because she stays up later as she doesnt have to get up for work the next morning .

She cannot go a day without drinking I know she is an alcoholic as the family does but you dont dare say that to her . Someone once told her she had a problem and she went off saying her drinking isnt a problem because she factors that into her budget .

I might look at getting one of the testers and just make out when were having a bbq in a couple of weeks as a fun thing just to see how higher reading she gets .

Re: Alcohol question

Doing the "lets see what our readings are" thing is about the only thing you can do.  I'm sure she would know she's got a problem drinking too much but as much as you'd like to help, to be honest, it's her business how she lives her life.

I'd be worried about her hurting someone, driving while still affected in the mornings but unless she's caught in a RBT or has an accident, I don't think anything you say will change her.

It's hard to watch someone slowly kill thmeselves but her choice.

Re: Alcohol question

If she is an alcoholic and still drinks, perhaps it would be a good thing if she was caught just over the limit at any time.

She says she has to have a  regular one drink........she probaby has more....pisspots tend to lie about their problem.
