An easy $149,000

I don't know if any of you saw an online article yesterday. (I don't have the link)

I nearly choked on my cup of tea.

Some agency in US I think it was, offered $149,000 to anyone willing to go one year without their smart phone. No messages, calls, no looking up social media or addresses, no browsing the internet on it etc

They had about 100,000 applicants and chose one woman who is now in about month 8.

At first I thought-yes, it would be a bit hard not to use the internet, but you know what, for $149k in one year, I'd do it.

Here's the real kicker though. It only applies to a smart phone!

The person was actually given a flip phone so they could still make calls or receive messages.

They are still allowed to access the internet etc on a laptop or normal computer, just not on a smartphone.

I would romp it in as I only got a smart phone recently anyway and prefer a computer or laptop or ipad.

Is modern life so hard that people actually could not exist without their smart phone?

I would romp it in too Springy ...  Woman LOL

I elected to only have a flip phone, no internet. All it can do is call out, receive calls and text, but I don't text anyway.

Mr. Tas has been offering me any smart phone I would like for years now, but it's just not something I need or want .. after all, I also have a laptop and two all in one computers (Macintosh and PC) at home.

We invite (encourage) friends and visitors to turn their smartphones off as they come through the door and amazingly, they do!  Nothing worse than copious disruptions by people addicted to their phones when we are sitting talking together ... Smiley Frustrated

We have a mobile instead of a landline (much cheaper), but it's not a smart phone.

No tablet, just a laptop, so we'd have no problem either.

Maybe it's harder to do without a smartphone for Americans? 🙂

I only have a landline phone and a laptop....sadly no one is going to make me any generous offers to do without such ancient technology. 😄

I bought a smart phone   oops.gif

I don't have to use social media or the internet on it.

But I had to buy one because the 3G network is being phased out next year.

Everyone will need a 4G capable phone.

So ya better get used to using one.   I only paid $99 for mine - not a fortune.

But I could've gotten that $149,00 easy peasy.

There is a link in that link to see whether your phone is 3G

Re: An easy $149,000

I tried to find a link to the article but only came across others where people were being offered $100k.

It seems to be a thing in USA, those competitions.

Bring it on in Australia, I say! We could all enter and glide through it, no stress.
