It must be difficult to work out which items should attract a GST when you compare items, I have never given it much thought but when put like this I can see why some people may be upset.

Because you can correct eyesight with glasses or contact lenses. Which don't cost anywhere near the price of eye laser surgery.
Contact lens (disposable) have dropped in price a lot in the last year or so (about 40%)

I did not know that either, I guess it is because you can wear glasses. A lot of people actually wear glasses for fashion though?
Very strange
My father wore glasses for as long as I can remember....he was wearing them when I was born.
if he had not had laser surgery in his 70s he would have gone blind. So not a choice....laser surgery was a necessity as were the glasses.
Laser surgery for what? Cataracts? some other eye disorder?
Which is different from a person (short-sighted or long sighted not a disease/disorder) making a personal choice to have eye laser surgery just because they no longer want to wear glasses/contact lenses.

That's the same story as my mother.

Same as me. I've had a number of eye surgeries and many eye laser surgeries as well. Hurts like hell too. But it is stopping me going blind so I have it when needed. I have a disease called Retinal Vasculitis and a couple of others thrown in for good measure so can't have the laser to correct my eyesight. Laser costs a fortune as apparently the medicare number for it only pays back a certain amount so I'm always $100's out of pocket when I have to have it done. I'll eventually go blind but it keeps me seeing for now.
