It must be difficult to work out which items should attract a GST when you compare items, I have never given it much thought but when put like this I can see why some people may be upset.

Before GST was introduced, women's 'products' attracted a 'luxury tax'

I never felt luxurious at the time

Nothing was done about it then - nothing will be done about it now IMO

Really? I never knew that

Don't get too excited.          Vases attracted a luxury tax also

It's difficult for businesses and bookeepers/accts. I never really think about it as a consumer though.

In NZ it is applied to ALL goods and services.

Only slightly off topic but I could never really understand why laser surgery to fix eyesight is considered cosmetic.

I did not know that either, I guess it is because you can wear glasses. A lot of people actually wear glasses for fashion though?

Very strange

If that's the case then why can't you claim on a pair of glasses?  The eye test is covered but if you want to be able to see then tough luck.

My father wore glasses for as long as I can remember....he was wearing them when I was born.

if he had not had laser surgery in his 70s he would have gone blind.  So not a choice....laser surgery was a necessity as were the glasses.
