Another bit of Australia to be sold to China???

NSW Premier and our Treasurer must have some screws loose. They want to lease 50.4% of Australias largest Electricity producer to Chinese conglomorations for 99 years. All they can see is $$$$$$$, but how long will those Dollars last or of what benefit for the Australian people?

Many years ago a friend of mine had a conversation with a Chinese gardener. He asked why China had not invaded Australia during the last war? The Chinaman told him; "We don't have to fight you. we just buy everything and in the end Australian peole will work for us and by our rules.

It sounded like a joke in those days. Now I am not so sure anymore.

Re: Another bit of Australia to be sold to China???

I just heard China stuck an oil platform in International waters close to Japan's territory.

They seem to just do what they like and don't care about the rules.

If they plan on joining the International stage and gain the benefits, they will be open to so many lawsuits it's ridiculous.

Perhaps that's why they are taking the backdoor.

ps, this liberal govt whent to an election promising not to sell the electrcity to anyone.

once in power they did the deal, all signed sealed and delivered before telling anyone.

the libs in this state wonder why they have been locked out of power, excuse the pun, for so long.

the general public remember that broken promise every time we get an electricity bill.

S.A's electricity prices are nearly double some other states. Recently the S.A state government had to enact emergency measures during a period of peak power demand as several of the staes largest commercial users threatened to close their businesses within 24 hours as the peak power prices where too expensive to keep running.

The government used emergency measures to fire up a disused / mothballed power plant to ensure supply for these businesses.

The states power supply network is owned by a Chinese businessman. Within two years of buying the poles and wires from the S.A government he listed 49% of the business on the China stock exchange. He sold less than half the business, for more than he paid the stupid SA government, keeping a controling 51% intrest in the business for free.

I dont think these governments have got rocks in the head. Its more a case of $$$$ signs in the eyes. Sell everything cheap, announce a surplus, get elected for another 4 years and to he!! with the long term interests of the voting public. ITS JUST CRAZY STUFF.

How about this sale that was never mentioned in the mainstream media?

Chinese company Shanghai Zhongfu has bought one of Australia’s prized cattle stations in the Kimberley for about $100 million, opening the way for massive new cropping development and food processing in the Ord irrigation region on an unprecedented scale.

The sale of 476,000ha Carlton Hill near Kununurra by Australia’s largest private cattle holding Consolidated Pastoral Company, owned by Britain-based investment firm Terra Firma, was quietly approved in March by the Foreign Investment Review Board and Scott Morrison.

“The matter was assessed by the government prior to the election and not deemed to be contrary to the national interest,” the Treasurer’s spokesman said last night.
