I am not a particular fan of Tony Abbott, but fair is fair.
How much money would it have cost the Government to pay the rent for that mansion? I wonder where that so called mansion is and who made the initial descission to rent it at such price?
Kiribilli House is a National Heritage and has to be preserved, and I am not talking about the rug.
Just because none of us has an expensive rug on the floor, does not mean that other, well off people would buy cheap stuff just to appease the envious.
Grrrrr, what logical thinking

If the mansion is rented they are paying for it. He just wanted time out with the boys, especially when the boys are AFP.

The most vulnerable have to tighten their belts due to the dire financial straits Australia is allegedly in, yet, the PM thinks its acceptable to spend the taxpayers money on something as frivolous as a rug. I have nothing against money being spent on repairs and maintainance.

December 2013
TAXPAYERS are forking out $3000 a week in rent for a luxury Canberra house that Prime Minister Tony Abbott has chosen not to use.
The Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) leased the property as a temporary replacement for The Lodge, which is undergoing a major refurbishment.
Senior DPMC official Elizabeth Kelly said the department signed a 12-month lease on August 31, a week before the September 7 federal election.
It signed even though neither Mr Abbott nor then Labor prime minister Kevin Rudd had been able to inspect the property due to their election campaign commitments.
