Just because none of us has an expensive rug on the floor, does not mean that other, well off people would buy cheap stuff just to appease the envious.
You missed a vital piece of information there.. the rug Abbott purchased was paid for out of taxpayers funds.
I am sure no-one would care less what luxury goods he might purchase out of his own salary/income.

Karen, no, I am not a fan of Tony Abbott, neither of the KR - JG - KR backstabbing party, but I am trying to be fair.
The money for the rug should have come out of Tonys pocket, but the rent for the mansion is being paid by the Government out of peoples taxes. Neither Tony nor Kevin had a say in what accomodation they prefered. So blame the right people for choosing the mansion before the elections and squandering tax payers money.
Restorations to Kiribilli House are essential no atter who is PM. It is a piece of Australian History.

And your point is?
I couldn't find anything about floor coverings in that article, or refurbishing or anything related to the collision govt.

Didn't Kirribilli House get extensive renovations while Howard lived there?

Sorry, I thought I saw a photo there of our ex PM sitting in the lounge room and I noticed what I thought looked like lino, in the background.

I suppose the reporter could have been so awe struck by Gillard that she thought the lino was thick carpet... I doubt it though.

See? This is why we cannot risk that with Mr Abbott.
