Victoria Police and AFP conduct anti-terror raids in Melbourne suburbs of Flemington, Meadow Heights and Seabrook

UPDATE: A MAN has been taken into custody as Victoria Police and Australian Federal Police officers conduct counter-terrorism raids at properties in three Melbourne suburbs.

The raids taking place at Point Cook Rd in Seabrook, Flemington and Meadow Heights are anti-terror related, the AFP confirmed.

The man was arrested by police at a property in Seabrook as about 12 AFP officers conducted the raid.

The raids are not related to last week’s stabbing of two police officers in Endeavour Hills, the AFP said.

Earlier, Victoria Police said in a statement: “The Australian Federal Police and Victoria Police can confirm that a number of search warrants are being conducted as part of a joint operation in the following suburbs — Flemington, Meadow Heights and Seabrook.

“While this activity is continuing no further comment will be made.”

Police carry out terror raids in Flemington, Seabrook, Meadow Heights, Broadmeadows and Kealba

Victoria Police and the Australian Federal Police are conducting anti-terror raids across five Melbourne suburbs.
In a joint operation, officers are executing search warrants in Flemington, Seabrook, Meadow Heights, Broadmeadows and Kealba.

One man has been taken into police custody at Seabrook.
The man who left the house with police did not have handcuffs on. Police would not confirm whether he was arrested or whether he left with police of his own free will.

Police have not removed anything from the house.

Fairfax Media understands the raids are related to terrorism financing.

Earlier suggestions that explosives were discovered at a Dallas property are incorrect.

Police have also said the raids are not related to the shooting of a teenage terror suspect in Endeavour Hills last week.

The Australian Federal Police stated: "This operational activity is not in response to a threat to public safety nor is it related to last week's incident at Endeavour Hills."

Police have also confirmed the raids are not related to earlier anti-terror raids in Brisbane and Sydney.

yep - they are doing a great job.

after the syd and bris raids the AFP

did say it was an ongoing investigation and

there would be more raids and more arrests.

Australian Federal Police (AFP) Assistant Commissioner Neil Gaughan said the 23-year-old man from Seabrook was arrested for allegedly providing $12,000 to a US citizen fighting in Syria.

The AFP said the man was charged with intentionally making funds available to a terrorist organisation, knowing that organisation was a terrorist organisation.

The Assistant Commissioner said today's arrest came after a tip off from the FBI.

"The search warrants were the culmination of an eight month investigation which began following information provided by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation," he said.

The Assistant Commissioner said they had acted because there was concern the man was about to make another transaction to the man in Syria.

"There was a large amount of electronic evidence seized during the search warrants and that will be analysed by our investigators in the coming months to get more evidence in relation to the commission of this offence," he said.

The Assistant Commissioner said this was the first time police were aware "someone has sponsored someone to go and fight".

abc news.

He did not make an application for bail and was remanded to reappear at court in February.

800 policeman in Sydney & Brisbane raid - 1 spotty youth charged

No of policemen in Melbourne raid today (?) -

1 charged - Hassan El Sabsabi, 23, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Tuesday afternoon charged with six counts of intentionally making funds available to a terrorist organisation.

2 person?  What details have been published about a second person?

Not a very good success rate really.

Prosecutor Andrew Doyle told the court that police had 25,000 pages of information, mainly from social media, to comb through, as well as the transcripts of more than 500 calls and messages intercepted during an eight-month investigation.

It's my opinion that they should call these anti terrorism investigations. Terrorism is not something that should have it's name flippantly shortened, given a nick name like some prime time tv show.  Feelings of terror are something people experience in life occasionally, not something that can be erased or made disappear.

are you referring to the 22 year old

man with acne?  he does have a name.

what do you expect terror suspects to look like ????

(2 men were charged btw)

can't really comment on the success as

the investigation is ongoing/evidence still

being examined,  further arrests have not

been ruled out and i do not have access to

any more information.

it appears that you do?  do tell.

It's not about how many police are involved or what the cost, it's about bringing to justice those who break our laws to fund organisations who have vowed to attack us where ever and when ever they can, ever avenue the police choke off , the less funds available, the less chance of australians who bravely put their lives on the line for our freedom and the freedom of those they go to defend have of coming up against well armed opporsition , 1 less bullet in one less gun

and:

"There are a number of current investigations at hand and we're not going to go into the details of those," he said.

Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Graham Ashton said there were other ongoing investigations that could not yet be discussed.  "There are a number of matters that are under investigation."
