Anti-vaccine hysteria has spread to horse owners

HORSES are regularly dying on the Gold Coast because of the influence of the powerful anti-vaccine movement stopping owners from protecting their animals against the Hendra virus.

Over 80 horses and more importantly 4 people have died as a result of this virus.  Unbelievable that horse owners would risk their animals as well as other pets, vets, and themselves.

one horse died in murwillumbah on Saturday from Hendra. 2 other horses, some dogs and a few people are also being contained.

There was a large race meet in murwillumbah with horses coming from everywhere and no one was informed of the dead horse until it was too late.

Re: Anti-vaccine hysteria has spread to horse owners

there are a lot of true facts on the vaccine that arent based on 'companies making money from the hendra vaccine. the reason that horse owners are hesitant to give this to their beloved animals is because it hasnt been properly tested. nobody can say what the long term implications are, also the info re the follow up booster is changing on a weekly basis. im lucky being in vic but my horsey friends in Qld are having a shocking time deciding wether to risk their horses health on this vaccine against a diasese that is s small risk. id love to type more but being on mobie with a small screen this i killing my eyes. if you would loke to see more informed answers google a horse forum like cyberhorse.
Commonsense is not so common!

Polks...... the autopsy report of an exhumed horse was that one of 5 things could have been responsible. 4 have been ruled out leaving the vaccine as the llikely cause.
Side effects in other horses have apparently caused some horses to be rendered useless.
I guess they have to choose the risk they are comfortable with.....don't compete... stay home
