Any nomads here?

Just wondering if there's anyone else here living permanently on the road (nomad style) interested in chatting with me now and then? OK with me if by PM or on open boards. Age/sex/relationships irrelevant as only interested in friendly chat now and then.

I have a 2011 Winnebago Menindee 26.5 footer and towing a tandem trailer loaded with my 4x4 with my 12 foot tinnie on top. Vic plates. What are you in/with?

Right now I'm parked up just outside Cooktown Qld and headed across toward Darwin soon but in no hurry

I'm often out of mobile internet areas but will try to stay in touch as best I can

Been on road just over 12 months now

Re: Any nomads here?

It seems you have sussed this place out quite quickly :^O

It use to be very different with a much more balanced proportion of normal posters, it degenerated into political threads and bashing the mesanger if they dare say anything that doesn't agree with their thoughts. The extremes are taking over as the moderates have left.

Yes I know. That's why I'm up in the north of Qld right now. I don't feel brave enough to head for the Glasshouse Mountains at this time of year even though its one of the areas I've been recommended to visit. That'll have to wait for my next Qld visit during warmer times

Have you ever been to Karumba?

I'll be headed over that way in another week or so and have heard mixed reports about the place. Some say the fishing is the best there, others say the opposite but going by what I hear in general there's not much else there so a bit of clear knowledge would guide more if you can help

After only just over a year on the road I've come to the conclusion I will never see everything of this wide brown land no matter how long I stick at it 🙂

Ten minutes was more than enough to suss this site out and draw educated conclusions 😞

I used to read these boards now and then years ago and immediately noticed the total changes in attitudes of posters from then to now. It was far more friendly and helpful back then and there was many more interesting topics to read with a good exchange of views, plus some good senses of humour thrown in

I can't believe the number of political rubbish threads here now and they're not even informative or balanced, just ranting on

The truth is that no Aussie party could run a pee-up in a brewery these days so what's the point in discussing any of them and their dirty deeds? They can all be summed up by saying, Liars, Cheats & Thieves 😉

PS. I have to stick to decent roads with the Winnie but that's why I'm towing the Patrol on the trailer up back with the tinnie on top

I have a good tent with camping gear packed in the Patrol so I can head out into the sticks without a worry. Did that last week when I headed up as far as The Pound for a looksee after leaving the Winnie parked up here

So if you know the Karumba area well and can direct me to see something worthwhile well off the beaten track I'd be very happy to learn of it

I'm not living the nomad life, but I envy the lifestyle, looking forward to hearing about your travels.

Just for the sake of giving you a bit of a chuckle at my expense .............

I stopped off for a couple of days at The Willows in the central Qld gem fields on the way up north to try my hand at sapphire hunting, not recommended at all I can tell you, too much hard work with nothing to show for it for my tastes but them's the breaks I guess 😉

Just so I had something to show around the evening campfire during my travels I popped across to Rubyvale and bought a couple of those sapphire gravel buckets to play with and ended up with a few pretty useless littlies at least

Met a seriously 'into it' kind of fella while there and ended up buying a reasonable looking blue from him for $40 so now I have something I can tell lies about finding myself during my digging days. Oh but what we do to deceive and keep our egos intact. All adds to the fun and life experiences though :^O

Re: Any nomads here?

We stayed at one of the caravan parks in Karumba. Too crowded. If we get up there again will stay in Normanton  at the park opposite the Purple Hotel. I always go into the tourist info centres to see what is in the areas we stop at. Plus chatting with other travellers will give you an idea of what is good to see and what is best ignored.

Tassie is great. We have been there three times and love it. There are areas to free camp. However these are getting fewer in numbers.

That's the real beauty of chatting and meeting nomaders, they are living life to the full so have interesting views and info to share, never boring, dull or childish

:^O

My spidey senses are telling me something is a little familiar here. Hmm who was that ID that thinks he's a great catch, 'travels' a lot, thinks we are all dull and childish? He hasn't been around lately ...

or has he?  😉
