Just wondering if there's anyone else here living permanently on the road (nomad style) interested in chatting with me now and then? OK with me if by PM or on open boards. Age/sex/relationships irrelevant as only interested in friendly chat now and then.
I have a 2011 Winnebago Menindee 26.5 footer and towing a tandem trailer loaded with my 4x4 with my 12 foot tinnie on top. Vic plates. What are you in/with?
Right now I'm parked up just outside Cooktown Qld and headed across toward Darwin soon but in no hurry
I'm often out of mobile internet areas but will try to stay in touch as best I can
Been on road just over 12 months now

Just got dropped back here from town (read pub :-p) after a great dinner and evening out but not ready to hit the sack yet so doing a bit of internet browsing because I'm still trying to find the sort of scuba gear I'm after buying. Ebay is an absolute waste of time for that kind of thing 😞 Thought it worth trying though
I had never considered I would end up doing the nomad thing until a couple of years ago but now love it. Don't know how long I'll continue for as I'm only a spring chick in my 40's, and it will depend on when I find the kind of place I feel like settling down in for the long term again. Outer Melbourne area won't be it again though, totally over that one even though I still own a house and business premises there still, but only until I'm ready to sell them up to finance my next home and surgery somewhere else
In the meantime the rental incomes from them are keeping the wolf from the door in a style I've learned to enjoy 😄
The past 12 months or so have been the first time in the better part of a decade I've felt as though I'm alive again instead of waking up every day wishing I hadn't so the nightmarish existence continued (long story most people wouldn't believe can happen)
I'll most likely be on my way toward Darwin by the time your rellie hits Cooktown but even if I wasn't I'd still have a hard time trying to pick one person wearing a funny hat from all the others around the place. That kind of town 🙂
I've been here just over a week and will most likely stay on for another one but that'll about do Cooktown for me I think. Only so much fishing anyone wants to do and that's about all there is around here unless you want to spend all day in a pub, but that isn't my thing no matter how much I enjoy a glass or two of vino
I'll keep a weather eye out on the board here until I pull out of town to see if any other nomads shout up but unless there's something more interesting than most of the other topics turns up on these boards I doubt I'll be chipping in much, just waaay too boring for my tastes and the petty sniping I've seen here is waaay too childish (Are they really adults?:|)

My post didn't get added on: I would like to know how you find the reception for mobile broadband when you are travelling in the woop-woops. Is it dodgy? Is there none in some places?

Suspect from the first post, IMO

Actually wireless broadband is better in a lot of woop woop places than in the cities. We get better reception out there than 40ks from Melbourne.

In my limited experience, some 20,000km traveling from SA all through Vic and upto the central coast NSW a number of times I have found the same as PCT, I think there has only been 2 occasions that we didnt have 3g reception with Optus and the speeds and quality of service is far better in regioanal towns than capital citties

Even in isolated areas where there are no towers for miles around?
I live in a regional town, the wireless broadband that I have is woeful. Gets very congested and can't open a webpage sometimes.

If we can get mobile signal we get broad band. We have not had any real issues in isolated areas. There are some places of course you can get neither mobile or broad band. We stay in Melbourne and can not get wireless. Same in Hobart. So congested.
