Any nomads here?

Just wondering if there's anyone else here living permanently on the road (nomad style) interested in chatting with me now and then? OK with me if by PM or on open boards. Age/sex/relationships irrelevant as only interested in friendly chat now and then.

I have a 2011 Winnebago Menindee 26.5 footer and towing a tandem trailer loaded with my 4x4 with my 12 foot tinnie on top. Vic plates. What are you in/with?

Right now I'm parked up just outside Cooktown Qld and headed across toward Darwin soon but in no hurry

I'm often out of mobile internet areas but will try to stay in touch as best I can

Been on road just over 12 months now

I don't think the OP would have any problem paying the self-publishing costs;-)

unless there are posts missing I can't see anything to support your accusations.

A3 it could be part fiction, maybe a few piccies inside the winnie would be good, even an affair with a hitch hiker would be interesting:-p

OMG Freddie your avi made me laugh. I know I shouldn't.  :^O

In my limited experience, some 20,000km traveling from SA all through Vic and upto the central coast NSW  a number of times I have found the same as PCT, I think there has only been 2 occasions that we didnt have 3g reception with Optus and the speeds and quality of service is far better in regioanal towns than capital citties

That is exactly what I'm finding as I go

Some places I've pulled up at have no mobile broadband service at all but many are only affected be speeds and service quality.

It hasn't proved to be a problem for me as I generally don't bother with the net unless I want to get into my email box or occasionally surf the web looking to buy the odd item as I've been doing for scuba gear lately or for info about my intended future destinations

I've found that if I can get mobile phone connection I can get broadband as well (subject to speeds and quality)

After reading the rash of silly posts left here over the past couple of days on this thread I have to say they are certainly proving your earlier comments all too correct Wolf but I'm glad to see that there are half a dozen other posters who are happy and willing to conduct a civilised adult exchange here

I prefer to use my limited time on the internet in a pleasant constructive manner rather than join in such silliness so I think I will just ignore it all and continue to conduct my exchanges here in a civilised way as I've been attempting to do

It's such a pity sites like this on the internet are so often abused in such a way by those who clearly suffer with antisocial behavioural problems

On the brighter side of things ...

Subject to prevailing weather conditions I will be heading off on a three day fishing charter trip to the outer reef starting tomorrow so I can cross yet another item off my personal 'bucket list' of life

When I first started creating the list I wondered if I would ever manage to cross any of them off as I was at the very start of my treatment for the Big C but since being cleared as being in remission I have managed to shorten the original list a little but have added a few more since then :^O

I came up with the bucket list idea after watching the movie of that title as it gave me something to focus upon and hope for during the very worst of things. Now I'm doing my best to enjoy some of those items before I eventually have to knuckle back down to living a more standard lifestyle and begin earning my living again So a deep sea fishing trip is it for the next three days

I'll be heading west head toward Darwin after that so may not get back in here to chat again for a while but I'll do my best to before I pull out of Cooktown, even if only to say farewell for now

Why worry about

"knuckle back down to living a more standard lifestyle and begin earning my living again"

If you have funds why not just live the life and keep doing things on your list while you can.

Who cares what normal is and why conform, most people work a life time to do the things you are if they are lucky enough to still have the health to do it when they get to retire.

as long as you can pay the bills and eat what more is needed?

There's the rub. I don't have unlimited funds available to me so I'll have to do it sooner or later

At the moment I'm living off what was left of my savings, (My ex took a big chunk of those during the divorce proceedings) plus the rental income from my other outer Melbourne house and business property but they both involve maintenance costs in the long term as well as other steep outgoings for rates and so forth

I also borrowed part of the cost toward buying the Winnie I live in now so have to service those repayments also

As far as I am able to ascertain I can keep going as I am for perhaps another two to three years as long as I don't do anything really stupid, but then I'll start feeling the pinch

There's also the factor that I had always enjoyed my previous working life as a Vet but just no longer feel the urge to continue doing it as I used to in a large practise environment, so I'll be looking to find the suitable largish town somewhere on my travels where I can afford to set up my own smaller mixed animal practise again, or possibly buy into one as a partner

I have already preliminarily agreed with my old Vic based partners to sell out my share to them when I'm more sure of what my future holds, so hopefully the funds from that sale together with my home and business premises there will more than cover what I'm thinking for my future plans and then be debt free in the process

It's a bit of a juggling act at the end of the day

The other main factor in my life concerns my 15, coming 16yo daughter who is now living back in the UK with my ex (who has re-married) and her older brother

She was very upset by the way things went when my ex suddenly decided they wanted out of our marriage whilst on a supposed trip to see rellies in the old country and she hates her new step parent

My daughter and I were always very close before that all went down and she is constantly begging me to find a way so she can return to Australia to live with me again, but until she turns 18 and can then go her own way without interference regarding legal issues that's just about a no-hoper

My son is perfectly happy with his life as it is now but he was always a bit of 'I don't care about others' in attitude, but I miss my daughter as much as she misses me, but I certainly wouldn't be able to offer her much stability living as I am right now, so that's yet another main factor in my future need to return to the standard lifestyle way sooner or later so I can earn a good living again to support us both

Sorry for spilling my personal problem guts here but it's always on my mind and often difficult to think through it clearly alone

Things will work out sooner or later I'm sure, but it takes its toll on me at times, and I still never know if the Big C issue will show its ugly face to me again

I think I need a glass of vino to calm down again now 😉

Thanks for allowing me to share with you anyway Wolf

Sorry for that error, I meant Hawk. I was too busy thinking about my own problems to look at the ID properly. I apologise
