Any recommendations for a basic.....

MP3 player?  I don't need an ipod, just something easy to use

that plays music and nothing else -  don't need phone, FM,

video, etc. .
I know nothing about these and have no 5 year old around me to explain, lol,

I see you can get them for around $30 up.
Would these be able to rip CDs from my computer?

And could I download music free or must I pay for it.

Don't need huge storage either - I want to download some

classical  music also rock and a variety of music.  .

Good sound quality would be nice.

I will get it from a store.

Any input most welcome.

I've had a couple of cheap ones from ebay. The last one is now about 6 years old and still going strong.  I wanted cheap and nasty because my first one broke first time it was dropped.  :^O

Sound is good on my cheapie

Glad you aren't looking at iPod, they are most user unfriendly product I've come across.  Took me forever download my first set of songs.

I have a Sony Walkman mp3 player. It does have FM and a few other things I haven't looked at. I bought it oseas and it was about $70. 8GB I think.

My daugher put music on it for me for free.

I like it, sound is good.

I have a couple of Sandisks like these, I was going to put just a picture here but am having all sorts of trouble size wise.

Any way they are so easy to use, just drag and drop your files on there. You can rip your own cd's to mp3's onto your computer and just put them on the player. I don't know if they even make them anymore as I have had them years.

Hubby has an IRiver, a little more complicated but you do have  control. I paid way over $100 for that one, again had it for years so no longer available but I'm sure they have other updated models.

i bought one last year when  DD smashed her ipod screen as a stopgap while i fixed it.

she tried everything, and she's skilled in this area. but one song was all she could get on to the thing. it might be just incompatible .
