Anyone else have a veggie patch?

I got busy last weekend, deconstructed a few pallets and set up about 8 slightly-raised garden beds, trucked in some good soil and looking forward to a great Spring/Summer !

Love the containers CM ... Mine is going to be fully fenced with a swinging gate so my 3 gsd's dont use it as a toilet ..... What is it about dogs 'n nice fresh hay?

I don't live there anymore, but I still have my containers.

If I stay on here there is an area where I can out these out of spotted harm's way.

I used to live in Vic once upon a time in a life far far away.

I lived in the city and my angel daughter (channy's real mum) lived in Colac and also in Arrarat

I haven't been well enough the past few weeks to get anything physical happening, however I am hoping next week sees it all happening.

This is our veggie garden.........we have tried to make as low maintenance as possible.

Nothing goes to waste as we have four guinea pigs to eat the outer leaves and things.

We grow chili.......tomato..........celery.........rhubarb......cabbage........broccoli....cauliflower.

Last year we grew zucchini and never again..............well never three plants anyway.

I have looked at those containers and I do want them,  but....

the poor old vegie garden is about roughly 10 metres square.

It is so overgrown that I think there are three Japanese soldiers

hiding in there, not knowing that WW2 has ended!

I have to get it all weeded to start with, and that is gunna cost

a fair bit of money.  It's a work in progress (in my mind, at least)

Buy a couple cans of aerosol weed killer from major hardware store. Just wet the weeds first, spray and then wet again in 7 days. They will be gone in about 3 weeks. The one I use does not leave any residue in the soil, but to be sure I always add fresh soil on top. All up cost max $40

On chokoes ... they have very little taste ... they are edible with copious quantities of butter, and are one of the few items I would add salt and pepper to.

My uncle (who grew them) said that during WWII they were used as a substitute for apples - or to add to cooking apples to give a greater quantity of apple-tasting fruit.

Apparently it is a myth that McDonalds used them in their "apple pies" ... but thinking back, wasn't there a scandal and it was found that the apple pies contained no actual apples?

Sorry, jean, re weed killer.  I always had an organic garden.

Would never use pesticides.   Besides,  I think that might also

kill my poor old cat, she loves 'nesting'  in those weeds.

Nope,  looks like a work crew's gotta come in.
