Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Ive done some of my Mum's side, but hit a hurdle so gave it away for a while. Then I found some extra info someone had posted on the net going back to around 1800, so I will have to find time to get back into it.

My sister in law has done hubby's side.

You got it grapes, so much depends on other people posting their information and finding it matches yours... That's great, so now you will have to have another look ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Thanks Darki. Having done a bit more checking I now realise ann would have arrived far to early for the Female Facory - which did not open till 1821. there was a 'Factory Above The Gaol' operating in 1804 but as she arrived in June and had been married of to Thomas Lisson only two months later i suspect she barely troubled the records there.
That NSW Library link is excellent, but none of the records held there appears to be available online.

Now that is interesting ele....

here's some more stuff:

This might explain why she wasn't there for very long :^O

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

The last time I checked with the NSW State Library you could not access the records on line....you had to make an application to view the records at a certain time and they would bring them to you in a reading room.
That was a few years ago though, and it may have changed now that on line records are becoming so popular.

Yes Lyndal I remember those days, but now it is possible to find them on line

I have also done some research for a book and found a great deal more, but today is not the day to ask me :^O I am recovering from a bad fall.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Yes well, one firm hit on the head have slowed me down a bit, but I'm getting back on track now.

Something good about Ancestry.com is even when you think you have made a mistake and lost it all, you haven't, it's just a matter of knowing how to to retrieve it.

ALSO as a member, if you get sick of it or can't afford to pay the annual amount, you can still acces your records and look at them until you can get back on. They never take them away ๐Ÿ™‚

Just thought I'd contribut that

Ni ni all ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

So glad everyone is getting something out of this thread... I think I was very clever thinking of it AND that was before I hit my head :^O :^O :^O

Yes my head is feeling lots better now and I saw my chiro yesterday and he sorted out my neck. We tend to forget when we hit our heads that our necks take the brunt of it all. Anyway I'm coming right again.

I got an ancestry tree notification yesterday and it looks like they have found a missing grandfather, which is great because he's on my maternal grandmother's side and they are being very hard to get any information on... here's hoping.

Anyone got any Carters from London? sigh! :^O

Hi izzy, now here's an interesting thing, have you Googled 'Lyon family tree'?

They were a big name in Scotland.

Yes I have that Carter too ๐Ÿ™‚
