Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Darkie...I am Tasmanian too....but my lot came from the Derwent Valley area.

Hi ya flashie 🙂 I moved down here from Sydney some 16 years ago, I just love it down here, would never go back.

If I rely on my ancestry then we are a nomadic lot, from way back in Persia, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Russia, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, the Orkneys, Scotland, Ireland, England and finally down here in australia.

I'm down Kettering way, where are you?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fern_Tree,_Tasmania

You would not be able to get there at the moment though Purple.....it is snowing.....Fern tree is very near Mount Wellington.

Isn't the mountain looking lovely at present? I was up in Kingston yesterday and it looks like icecream melting down the sides of a cake 🙂

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

where in Tasmania is Fern Tree?

Purple, if you email me with your ancestor's names who lived in Fern Tree there is a chance a friend of mine might have known of them. She and her family lived there for many years and it isn't a big population around that area.

She is well into history as she is going to publish her mother's diaries and there is every chance she might know the names.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Talking about living in Tasmania... I have never felt so at home as I do down here.

I always knew I would not end my life in NSW, but somewhere else. I knew there was a 'home base' for me that I felt in my bones I belonged to. This is it 🙂

If I think of my ancestors cat and finding them, it makes me wonder who will be looking me up in 1,000 years and where in the world they will be and how many generations did it take for them to get there. I can't even imagine 1,000 years into the future.

I find it strange that the people I am reading about had no idea that one day they would be on Ancestry.com and I would be reading about them, they would have no comprehension of the world today.

Well with all this wet and cold weather I will be seeking more of them 🙂

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I've managed to find the answer to one of my questions. Joseph's father was William Wilton (died 1768) and was a plasterer with a papier mache making factory 😮

because I am currently watching The Tudors' I wondered if the Wilton's had done something really bad that was rewarded by Henry v111 :-x

looking OK so far 😄

somewhere there is a connection between Elizabeth Porter & the Wilton family but i cannot find it

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

We must have changed a bit Darkie or else Prince Charles would have popped his mum off ages ago:-)

I have always wondered about Diana tho... that she was planning to stay with Dodi and maybe have children would have been motive enough for her to be killed.

Our princes would not be able to have Muslim half brothers and sisters.

I don't think things have changed that much, but I think we have become somewhat naive 😞
