Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

She was born as Jeanie....known as Jean...died as Jane.

That scenario usually happens because the person informing of the death has only known the person as the latter name. Occurs in a lot of family trees.

One of my ancestors has her surname spelt two different ways on the same marriage certificate - Lansbury and Lanceberry.

Good early morning all ๐Ÿ™‚

Flashie thank you so much for your efforts, I will spend more time with what you have given me and see what I can dig up among some of the stuff my aunt sent me, although I doubt it went back that far.

My word your John Brown is a good looking man isn't he.

Yes loveto, it is sad just how much stuff must get lost this way.

Ah now flashie, Jean/Jane all depends on the pronunciation and of course some names are Scot to start with and then are changed by the English, same as the Irish

Shamus is James, Ian is John and so on. If anyone finds a difficult person do try other alternatives for first names.

It's tricky but you can blame the English, they always change everything because they are always right X-(

Hmm... maybe a bit of Scots blood showing in me there :^O

I have lots of Irish and Scots rellies. Some of the Scots ones ended up in the Tower of London or were beheaded... like William Wallace of 'Braveheart' fame.. They were a wild bunch.

YIKES Ele, now there's a nice mix Lansbury and Lanceberry.. doesn't it get confusing.

I have a line of 6 'John' men in one tree and they are mixed in with 5 'Adams', that gets confusing.

Happy hunting folks .

My FIL spelt my MIL's name incorrectly on her headstone, I was furious because I offered to help him, I think that is the ultimate insult.

I had a brother that died when he was young (in 1950), he was burried in a mass grave at the Preston Cemetary. The grave was not marked. I found him through their online records, but the spelling of his first name was wrong. My sisters, brother and I, placed a plaque on the surrounds of the grave and corrected the spelling error. This was a promise I made to my Mum before she died, so was well worth the effort.

From memory I think there are 43 babies burried in the same grave, a paupers burial because after the ambulance bill from Euroa to Melbourne, Mum and Dad could not afford to bury the little bloke.

My father's family were from Hastings or Battle in the UK.

My OH's ancestors are from there. I think the town of Battle, or surrounds, is the site of the Battle of Hastings, hence the name.

Col, I think we probably are related to Angela Lansbury - but it would be a very distant relationship. My grandmother always said we were related to the well known (in England) 19th century Labour poltician, George Lansbury, who, I know, was related to Angela.

If this is true then I am also related to Macolm Turnbull - (not sure whether I should be happy about that or not.) LOL

I have a marriage certificate for my great, great grandmother, who was a Lansbury. So Flashie, if it's OK with you and you have the time, I might send you the details on it and see if you can come up with anything.
