Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

I keep two family trees.....one tree I am 100% sure of all the people in it....they have been confirmed by certificates and other sources.....it has about 700 people in it and goes back to 1747 on Mums side.....and 1800 on Dads side.

I also have another tree which has about 1100 people in it....all of whom are most likely mine.

I like to knwo about the people I put in my trees ....so I have spent a lot of time researching about the places they lived.....but that is also because I have a passion for History........and I especially love the convict stories

I do the same Flashie, I know my close relatives back to about the 1700s are accurate, but I just love the history of those I believe are my ancestors although i can't really prove it. It's the history I can't leave alone and reading about them and Googling things like their towns or castles is like a wonderful journey though time.

I am only the second Australian born in my mother's family and journeying from Australia to England then Ireland, Scotland, the Orkneys, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Persia has had me entraced for hours.

Hi kitty, so glad the links got you underway and you are cross-eyed :^O

Mad Dog eh? good luck finding the link, how good would that be?

Flashie that is a sad story isn't it... how hard for both of them and all for the need of money to eat.

Of course the Govt of the time would prefer he married again out here and had loads of children, a lot of the convicts were considered good breeding stock to begin building up the numbers - he sure did that didn't he :^O

Hahaa amber cat, now isn't that a funny story... i love it :^O

Mad Dog,hmmm, may not be a good one but could be an interesting story.

And guess what my mans nick name is,yep "Mad Dog" with acouple off others thrown in.
I am unsure if the connection is right though, having enough with keeping up with my family.

Your right Darkside about the amount of Kings etc for small area's who would poss be lords, mayors now.

I did find some sortta connection in a site about a castle in ireland/scotland & 2 brothers who were described as fair but fierce.
They fought in many battles & were quite powerful,i think 1 brother had the castle which is near a cliff & the other brother went over the seas?
This is the king connection poss & i also think the castle is still there.
Have to chase it up again because i ended up going all over the place & lost the site going from 1 link to another.

It seems our name/clan blah, blah was quite powerful & yes they slept around A LOT.
The stories are Fascinating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BBL after a cuppa & clear head.

An Aunt of mine had always told me when I was a kid that we were related to royalty on her Dad's side - apparently he was descended from the Duchess of Argyle.

It actually turned out that the Duchess of Argyle was the name of the ship that the immigrants travelled from Glasgow to New Zealand on :^O

:^O What a classic, Amber! And it just shows how easily family history can become distorted.

My great, great gfrandmother on my dad's side was a foundling, left on the steps of a workhouse and was given the surname Bufton, after the matron there.

I've never searched, Kitty, but I doubt if there would be anything useful. I don't think the authorities bothered to look too hard in those days.

This thread has got me going! ๐Ÿ˜„

I love reading about all your ancestry..

I've been having a ball trying mine, I think I'm a little stuck at the moment but a bit of a rest and I'll get back into it.

I've only got to my Great grandfather's and Mother's on my Dad's side and the same on my Mum's side ATM, oh I have my GG Gandfather on Mum's side.

I know my Grandmother's parent's (on dad's side) moved to England from Italy in the late 1800's and now I'm stuck as I'm not sure how to progress...

My Dad's Father's side so far all all English..

On Mum's side, so far it's all English too..

So, I've got to my Great grandparents and that's it. I thought I had my Italian GG Grandparents names but I don't know if it's them or not... ...LOL

I need a break anyway as my eyes are blurry from trying to look at a dozen pages I'm opening at a time.

Have fun everyone and a great thread Darkie.
