Mon, I am sure you would enjoy it more now but how nice to have memories of your mum reading it to you. She doesnt seem too fond of australia and the servants arent as good, we cant dance but it is enjoyable to hear the descriptions of the land, the people and the society. Who knows someone from the forum may even find their ancestors mentioned in there. If anyone knows any other good historical reads preferably true english or australian Id be interested.

I'm sure there were names in the book that were family names of people my mum actually knew. Not sure if they were related to the ones mum knew though. I think I really should read it now. I'd probably understand it now too. ๐

MERRY CHRISTMAS Darkie and to all the wonderful people I've met through this thread. What an amazing outcome this thread has achieved if you think back and read some of the posts. It has certainly been an inspiration for me.
Not to mention helping Tardis find his family. I hope he's having a wonderful Christmas this year. :-x

Nice one Flashie. ๐
A very good friend gave me some cash for Christmas and it's close enough to the Ancestry fee for a year with UK Plus so I'm thinking of 'investing' it there. There isn't much else I need right now and I'm really enjoying putting the pieces together. :-x

That's great chappies, and how you have another 12 months to dig and delve... goodie ๐
I don't know what I got from Christmas yet because I thought I had picked up the box from my son in Queensland on Thursday.
It sat on the kitchen table for three days and when I opened it on Christmas morning it wasn't from him, but was the new Family Tree Maker 2, which was nice but..... ๐
I will have to wait until the holidays are over before I can pick up my presents... sigh !
Now I have to try and work out if Family Tree Maker 2 will download from Ancestry. I think it does, actually it must because I certainly am not about to hand install all those people again.
Will let you know how it goes. ๐

I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas!
I have another one that I have been stuck on for a few months so I hope you guys don't mine me asking for some help ๐
George John Underhill who married Mary Skinner, I have no details for him but I know he had a son, also called George John Underhill in England abt 1867. George John JR ended up in Melbourne Australia but I'm not sure when he came over, he married Rebecca Reid in Australia in 1897.
I would like to know who G.J Underhill Snr parents were, what part of England they came from etc.
Thank you ๐
